Ontario slaps 25% tax increase on electricity exports to US in response to Trump's trade war
Ontario’s premier, the leader of Canada’s most populous province, is now charging 25% more for electricity shipped to 1.5 million Americans.

This guy is a moron. I don't know how many of you remember his brother (clown of clowns) but it's obvious that he came from the same tree. He doesn't realize the nations power pools overlap into both countries. Let me tell you what he has done.
The eastern interconnect covers most of the US and Canada. It is one system. There are many ISO's (Independent System Operators) within the Eastern Interconnect. It's huge. The largest "machine" in the history of the world. One of the jobs of the ISO is to safely and economically dispatch power plants onto the system to meet load requirements. This dispatching is determined by COST. Cheap units run first, more expensive units are dispatched as load rises. All these power stations are told when to come on line and are paid as they are used. Ontario has a huge amount of cheap hydro units and normally these units run whenever they available due to their low costs.
What the moronic Premier Ford has done is chunk a huge tax onto all those cheap units making them not so cheap. Now I will tell you what will happen. NOTHING! All he did was reshuffle the cost deck. Now those cheap units will sit by doing nothing, making nothing and no profit. More expensive units will run in there place (probably fossil fuel plants) and Ontario Hydro will have far less profit in their pockets. One other thing is since we are all in these power pools, if one member misbehaves, they can be sued by the ISO's and ISO members so the legal fallout is going to be like an avalanche. So when Ontario Hydro is told to "come online" and they say "no, our Premier says we can't" the fines by the ISO will be at bankrupting levels. Premier Ford is as dumb as his brother...but I do like comedy.
