Can we still win the East?

Actually, UGA could lose to any other conference team and UT would win based on divisional record. But if their second loss comes in the division, then UF's second loss can't come to either LSU or A&M.

Assuming Florida beats UK, Alabama beats Vandy, and UGA beats Miss State. What are everyone's thoughts on our road to the SEC East?

Can we win with a 5-3 record? Last year a 5-3 record would have nearly won the East and led us to a Sugar Bowl appearance.

Thoughts....?

No. Tennessee will lose to Bama, LSU, and Georgia.... at least.

East is done

I'm counting on 4 sec losses so no. Hope I'm wrong, just going on what I've seen so far

Anybody that tells you they know what's going to happen is full of it. There are going to be a lot of ugly, close SEC East games the next two months and there are probably 5 teams that could finish anywhere from 6-2 to 3-5 depending on breaks and injuries.

Mississippi State will probably beat Georgia. We will need Texas A & M and LSU to help us out. Both are pretty average.

This is what I am da** sick of, having to worry about other teams rather than we go out and do what's necessary to take the East by the throat....

Absolutely ridiculous that we have to play these "what-if" scenarios every year, just win and it takes care of itself

We have been mathematically eliminated.

Bring on 2018.

Wait!

My bad. Yes we can. I just realized it's September and we have only played 1 SEC game.

We lost to Florida in 2007 and still backed in to the SECCG. So, it can be done.
We lost to Florida and will likely lose to Bama & LSU but we will beat UGA. This gives us three SEC loses.
Since we lost to Florida, they will need to lose 4 SEC games. They could lose to A & M, UGA, Vandy, Ky. Missouri, USC or LSU........

Can you list 4 of those SEC games that Florida would/could lose????

I can't............

Florida is a bad team. Everybody won't give up a Hail Mary to let them win.

As bad as everyone wants to win the east and the SEC. 10-2 would be pretty awesome!

Sure we could win the east. We will? I say that is highly unlikely. We will be in a lot of close games, and just based off the past we will find a way to give a couple away.

Need to beat UGA, and need Florida to lose 3.

Florida losing 3 is going to be tough to come by.

Floraduhh looks like dog crap which makes them beating us all that more unbelievable. However, I think UK will beat them Saturday....Vandy will be no guarantee for them......and either LSU or UGA will wax their a$$.

We need to handle UGA, Candy, the Lamecocks, and the Mildcats. Butch is coaching for his job at this point! :good!:

Does it really matter?

Honestly? Why does it matter?

What would it truly mean?

If you can't play in the championship game then what is the point? No chance of conference championships if you can't win your own division. Even if that chance against Bama is small right now for anyone in the East.

UF needs 3 losses if you assume UT beats LSU and UGA at home (doable) and loses to Bama. UT can get to ATL in a three way tie with UF and UGA. For that to work, UT has to beat UGA and UF has to lose to UGA plus one other team. Preferably an East team but LSU helps too since they're a common opponent.

UGA has to lose to UT and must beat UF. They cannot lose a 3rd SEC game or UT cannot win the tiebreaker with UF. Head to head is the first tie breaker in a two way tie.

For all of the poormouthing by Gator fans here... they may have won the East again this past Saturday. UT has Bama which at this point is almost a sure loss and LSU who doesn't look that great. UF has LSU and TAM. Neither look good... and they get them both in the Swamp due to a hurricane in a previous year where a game was moved to LSU.

It REALLY SUCKS but here is the rest of UF's SEC schedule:

@UK
VAN
LSU
TAM
UGA @ J'ville
@MU
@USCe

Their toughest road game is to UK. A loss to UK makes UT's prospects much better since the division record is one of the tiebreakers for a three way tie.

Assuming a loss...

A division title shows REAL program progress. That demonstration of progress is good for recruiting and builds confidence within the program.

Get there and win or make a reasonably good showing... and you establish a new and higher platform to build on.

For your arrogant, entitled, condescending... ummm... self... it wouldn't mean much. You're currently trying to figure out a way to get rid of a coach who has gotten you to the CG for two straight years in spite of having no offense. Forgive us if we really don't sympathize with you going through those deep throes of emotional pain.

For UT it would mean getting over a hump and winning the East for the first time in 10 years. In spite of a sickening loss to UF on what someone described as a 3/4 court heave as time expired for a 3 pointer... it will show that Jones can win games that matter. For UT to have a shot they MUST beat LSU and UGA. That would also show progress and be valuable in recruiting.

Agreed. At the least it changes the narrative of "Tennessee blows it yet again."

The East is still in play, but as we've become accustomed since 92, we need some help. Early season Florida losses always has us chasing the tire.
