Look, I know this loss hurts because we were favored to beat a ranked team at our house on Senior night. I understand it's easy to get caught up in everything, but was the hype really warranted?
I really like Dobbs and what he brings to the offense, but the offense with him did well versus an Alabama team that quit playing because they knew they would win, a TERRIBLE South Carolina defense, and a downward-spiraling Kentucky team. We assumed that our three wins trumped the year-long resume that Missouri's defense earned, with the exception of a game or two.
To add to this, we were fairly shorthanded on defense, for almost the whole first half, and a good part of the second half. Partner that with our most highly regarded receiver being out, and some questionable calls down the stretch, is this fanbase REALLY in meltdown mode over losing to a top-20, Division leading team? I understand they're probably going to be the worst East champ ever if they hold on, but they're in no way "bad."
Mizzou might not be the most statistically sexy team, but they lead in the important statistic, and that's Wins and Losses and experience.
I too was drinking the Kool-Aid all week, but much like the feeling I had heading into Florida, I had it heading into this game. I felt like our young team was being hyped past what it should have been, and Volnation is going to crucify them for losing to a team they realistically should have beaten.
All of this being said, I really think we're headed in the right direction. The fact that Butch Jones has, with 23 true freshman playing this year, made Vol Fans and the nation confident enough in the job he's done with the young guys to predict a win over a top-20, division leading team speaks for itself.
The outcome of this game doesn't mean anything. We are likely to have gone to the same bowl if we won the last 2 games or just beat Vandy. National experts know what's happening on Rocky Top, and get ready guys, because it's coming.
