Just wondering. We need to. This game seems like they are trying to throw it. Anybody see Pete Rose in the crowd?

Exactly... I know people like us, will be blasted for saying this, but there is no way.... no possible way, that we should look THIS bad to THIS team.... Something is amiss.... Conspiracy theorists, please take over....

I think Phil orchestrated the whole thing just to get fired and get the $6 million buyout.

Yes, a player's Scholarship can be renewed each Season. I recall Spurrier asking a few players not to come back after he got to USC, and Saben asked Rick Clausen to move on after 2 years at LSU.

I heard Brent Hubbs say that MH has told the search firm...that all scholarship offers will have to be honored by the new coach. That must be part of the search criteria. As far as existing scholarships, I have no idea

Briscoe graduates or he would be first on the list.

Graduation is a beatiful thing for some, but the new coach should start a list and pick up as many new scholarship players as he can, especially if he can get a head start.

Save most of the sophomore class... and build a team around them.

And yet more of these pathetic posts are popping up. It really makes me sick to see what we have come to.

Correct. Scholarships are yearly renewable contracts.

The right thing to do is honor the commitments UT made.

See above. These kids had other choices and chose UT.

There must be some kind of NCAA bailout for cases like this.

I believe the NCAA's stand is that you commit to a school, not a coach.

I am absolutely offended that you would make such a post. I demand an apology immediately.

How could you say such a thing about Pete Rose? :)

Yanking scholarships for only football-related reasons is about the most dishonorable thing a coach could do.

No, a coach should not be forced to deal with the dreck someone else recruited. If the new guy cleans house, so be it.

Saban i heard got rid of about fifteen guys. Our new coach is likely to do a little or a lot of house cleaning himself. I think thats going to happen regardless of who it is. To many guys with smiles while were losing games, sends the wrong message.

No wonder the players freaked out when they heard the announcement of Phil's departure. They probably figured that they were out of a job as well.

I'm not sure we can do that, but if I were the next coach, there are definitely some guys I'd move to practice squad duty only. Unless some serious attitude adjustments occur between now and August, Crompton doesn't need to be on the sideline next year.

i am not talking about the new players coming in ( reading the title of the thread is always helpful before you correct someone) of course they have their scholarships....the existing players on scholarship will be evaluated by the new staff

I strongly disagree. For one thing, the annual scholarship limits prevent a wholesale housecleaning and restocking. If a new coach wants to drop 25 guys, it's not like he can have a 50-kid recruiting class to fill those slots.

Second, in the cutthroat world of recruiting, what kind of message would that send to recruits or their parents? "Come to State U, and if you don't perform within a year or two, we'll throw you back out on the street. Since most other schools would rather take an 18-year-old than a 20-year-old transfer who couldn't hack it at State U, he'll be living at home and flipping burgers until he's 30 with no college degree."

If nothing else, keeping five or so junk players around (and making a big show of it) would be good for the image. A new coach standing up and saying, "I believe we have a few players who are useless in our systems, but it would be wrong to just throw them aside when they've committed so much to this wonderful school" would certainly not be detrimental.

Maybe I wasn't clear in my post but my intent was to cover both new recruits and existing players. (thus the response to multiple posts) I wasn't trying to correct anyone.

Basically, a commitment is a commitment regardless of status. IMO
