Can SEC Reverse Suspension for Targeting?

This is one of those calls that should be corrected. It's not fair to have targeting on a player's and a team's record, when video evidence shows that the hit clearly didn't meet the rules for targeting. There was no launching and Moseley hit with his shoulder, not his helmet and the UK player was a runner, not a defenseless player. The SEC needs to make this right. But that's unlikely.

They will amend the 'roughing the QB' rule to just simply 'roughing the football player'... It will be a discretionary call on the field and in the replay booth...

It's also because it would just create a downward spiral where the refs would end up losing all legitimacy. The downward spiral would be where if this is over-turned, the SEC would have dozens of complaints next week, and multiple times more than that the following week. There would be calls that would have to be over-turned that could have affected the outcome of the game, and then you would have the outcomes of games being questioned weeks after the event. At some point the league office just has to say there won't be any changes to decisions made on the field, and handle discipline or changes behind closed doors.

It's one thing when it affects one game, the game is in the books and over and all they could do is apologize if they got it wrong. This affects next week too though.

So it would be more fair if Mosely got reinstated, but not when say a fumble recovery for a TD that changed the outcome of the game in the last seconds, was still ruled a TD and the wrong team won on a botched call?

I don't think either situation is fair, or just, but I believe that at some point you just have to shut the book on it, or you lose all hopes of maintaining order that the refs are there to enforce.

It's a total BS call, I just don't expect anything to happen because of it. I don't know how to solve the problem, either.

More so it affects a player. It is punishing a player, making them miss 2 quarters of a game for doing nothing wrong. It's like saying we know your innocent but you still must be punished...it's not fair to the player which is what the ncaa is supposed to be about.

You seriously don't see a difference here? once a game is finished, it's finished. But this effects the next week also.

The suspension won't get reversed because outside of Knoxville nobody even knows it happened or cares. The only chance we had was for butch to bring attention to it and force the sec to issue a statement or apology. Really feel bad for Mosley he doesn't deserve the suspension. Wish somebody had his back publicly instead of behind closed doors.

It was a bad call, but that whole game was terrible officiating. The first one was the worst. They get a personal foul and we get a unsportsmanlike and they get a first down. During that same play, one of ky's players throws a punch and was not ejected. Not to mention the multiple holds. I told my wife they were calling a bad game and I said , I wondered which ref was a fan of another team. That whole squad should be reprimanded and not be able to ref another game we play.

Then why do we have any rules? If the officiating is not corrected when errors occur then there is very little credibility to this game.

You can start solving the problem by correcting the error. That was not targeting and a player was unjustifiably ejected and suspended.

I agree that suspension may not get reversed, however this targeting call has drawn a lot of attention as well as the Duke and Miami game. At least ACC suspended some officials for their sorry officiating.

This will be unpopular - but I can see why they didn't overturn it. Although he led with the shoulder and hit primarily his chest, his shoulder pad did make contact with the face mask albeit barely. Since the face mask was hit which caused a slight movement in his head down, I can see why they were overly cautious and did not overturn it.

I thought it was a clean hit and the receiver was putting down his foot for the third step so he definitely wasn't defenseless. But, these calls will always go in the favor of the receiver if there is any grey area.

I think Rucker posted an article saying the SEC couldn't reverse it, right?

It should be reversed and the replay official should be suspended or terminated.

That is absolutely the worst targeting call ever. No question. the receiver was able to make a 360 turn, and made three steps before contact was made by defender's
SHOULDER. That was a very hard hit, but was a tremendous football play, and should have been ruled a fumble, recovered by Tenn.

Good call. Solve the problem by making it worse by magnitudes of 1000's.

UT nor Jones can call the officials much less the SEC out publicly. This MUST be done through channels and, yes, in private. Otherwise, all we would have is coaches and schools complaining about officials after every game.

They're human. They'll make mistakes... and I'm someone who screams at the TV relatively often because of missed or unequal calls. This one can and should be corrected.

The ACC gets props for what it did. This isn't as egregious but the replay official should be suspended.

The only person that gets punished is the player who did nothing wrong. That's what I don't like. Professional coaches have to speak to the media, pro athletes have to answer to the media. Being a ref is a profession. Why don't they have to answer to the media. Atleast 1 person within the officials should have to speak to the media after every game. There's no accountability.

Butch raised hell with the refs at the scene, as he is prone to do when sticking up for his players. The fact that he didn't go crying to the media is hardly a character flaw. A pity that some would see it that way..
