Can a UT fan be a real fan if they didn't attend UT?

I decided to get the @#$% out of Dodge and not attend UT. But rather than be disappointed come Saturday I chose a fine institution without a football team. Then some lame SOB decided FIU needed to put together a team and the rest is history. Glad I haven't been there to see all the excitement around actually winning a game every year. That brawl with UM was pretty exciting however.

No offense to the OP but this is stupid on two fronts. First the idea that you must have attended a university to be a fan, and why would a Vol fan care what a bandwagon Florida fan thought on the subject.

This Florida "fan" will bury his gear in the closet when Florida no longer is at the top of the food chain in the SEC. I grew up watching the Vols play football and hoping to one day put on that same uniform and play. It didn't work out for me but I have been a fan of this team long before most of those UF fans knew what football was.

What part of "all things being equal" are you failing to understand?

The 40 year old fan has likely dedicated far more of his life to the Vols, be it watching games in person/on television or simply spending more time following the Volunteers, then that individual is the bigger fan.

However, if two otherwise identical individuals are distinguishable in terms of fanaticism merely by their status as an alumnus, then the alumnus is the bigger fan.

WTH??? This isn't a empirical experiment in Physics...I shouldn't have said anything...School doesn't = fandom...OUT

I did not go to UT. Went to Illinois State. But I was raised a UT from day one. I've never known any different. I thank god everyday for being born to a dad that was a huge Vols fan. He taught me the right way from the start.

My daughter got her MA at Ill State. Good school!
