Can a UT fan be a real fan if they didn't attend UT?

if this was a requirement UT Football would half about 10% of the fanbase. Most did not attend UT. I didnt, wanted to but the economics and I knew I would party more than school. lol

My take on this is that when it comes to this level of college football these teams are like pro teams and you root for which ever team you like the best or whoever represents your state... for me thats tennessee... I go to MTSU but I claim to be a fan of UT.

I would buy a ticket to see these two square off in a courtroom.

I'm in there a few times a month. If I am reading his posts correctly, that's not where he spends his time. Not to say that he wouldn't be effective, I'm sure he would. Just don't get the impression that's his bag.

I went to Tennessee Tech because I felt they had a better engineering program and thats the only reason. Besides, I also thought I would party to much in Knoxville. Cookeville is a much smaller town and not as much distractions. And I get chills every time I step into Neyland....Go Vols..

Can't blame you for that. Tech has a great engineering program. TTU finished 2nd for me on my list of college choices. It was a pretty distant 2nd though, as I pretty much always knew I would end up at UT.

rediculus, coolege ifs a place to get ur education, thats all,for your careers, but football, just like the professionals,is bout your state and cities.

finally got our professional team.

and college is about jobs, etc.so no you dont have to go to the college to be a fan,i think if your born and raised here your a biggerer fan than the ones who go to the college.because when u go to college here ur actually sometimes from another state, and your here to get education thats all,but football is big in the south, and here, with tradition, and fans.so no you dont haver too go to college.

I graduated from UTK. I was a huge Big Orange fan before I even got there. I was a toddler stumbling Vol fan. It did not make me a "bigger" fan by going to UT. It was nice walking around campus in the early parts of the Fall semesters, hearing Denton warm up on the loud speakers. Going down to the UC to get our tickets, to see where we would sit, was very exciting. Getting to know the players was exciting. There are perks to being a student, but I would never put myself "above" who I was when I wasn't a UT student.

I did not go to UT. Went to Illinois State. But I was raised a UT from day one. I've never known any different. I thank god everyday for being born to a dad that was a huge Vols fan. He taught me the right way from the start.

is this a real response?

I was just messing with ya about it being LG. But there is no way it was a real post. "Biggerer" gave it away.

I have run into this on Gator boards and they say NO.

The first college I applied to was UT and got accepted but couldn't afford the tuition, my father was in the Army and home was Missouri. I went to Mizzou for two years and finished my degree with Maryland while in the Navy.

I posted the UT scores on my eraser board on my dorm room door while at Mizzou, watched all UT games I could find while in the Persian Gulf while in the Navy, Moved to TN after I got out of the Navy and proceeded to attend 5-7 games a year while I lived in Nashville. I am back in Missouri and fly UT flags on my car and wear UT attire.

Am I not a true UT fan?

I went to college with several die-hard Gator fans. None attended UF. Guess I need to inform them of the rules per the folks in Gainesville. I expect them to disavow their allegiance to the Blue and Orange immediately.

All things being equal, I'd say that an alumnus of a school has a leg up on a non-alumnus in terms of total degree of fandom.

Let's say a kid moves here from Nevada just to go to school someplace close to the Smokies...discovers UT football, becomes a big fan, and graduates last year. Are you saying he has a leg up on a 40 yr. old HS dropout that cut his teeth on John Ward, Bill Battle, Johnny Majors, Reggie, et. al. since the age of 2???

PLEASE!! :lolabove:

What part of "all things being equal" are you failing to understand?

The 40 year old fan has likely dedicated far more of his life to the Vols, be it watching games in person/on television or simply spending more time following the Volunteers, then that individual is the bigger fan.

However, if two otherwise identical individuals are distinguishable in terms of fanaticism merely by their status as an alumnus, then the alumnus is the bigger fan.

What was wrong with that post? :)

This has to be the dumbest question I have ever heard. most people never played or worked for the steelers or titans or cowboys, so are they posers. I couldnt attend UT when I was in college, would have loved to. But I dont know too many people who sit at home watching every game on tv wearing a heath shuler jersey, eating a hoagie, bbq chips, and orange soda with their face painted and playing rocky top every time they score. Plus when the kids were younger made them and the wife do it as well. So anyone that says I'm not a "true Fan" because I didnt attend college at UT. Can Kiss my "Volunteer Oranges" . I named my son Steeler tell me I am not a fan of them. H*** he's my first born.
