Can a UT fan be a real fan if they didn't attend UT?

Tell that to all the non-alumnus fans that fill Neyland on Saturdays.

As I have already explained in a previous post, being an alumnus of a school has little to do with the degree to which you are a fan of the institution in 99% of cases. However, logic dictates that being able to talk about standing in the student section and whatnot is more of a perk when discussing degree of fanaticism than having nothing to say in that regard.

I might not have the grades to get into UT...but I'm as big a fan you will ever meet!

Represented the Power T on my car in Georgia all weekend and I love it!

I did not go to or graduate from UT so therefore I am also not an alum. I have been a huge UT fan for as long as I can remember watching football. So for those that say graduates/alum/students are the only ones that can be "true" fans.... well, you all can ki$$ my a$$!!!!!

If everything else were absolutely equal in the most literal sense of that term (same number of games attended, same amount of merchandise purchased, same amount of hours spent watching the Vols on television), then it should be quite clear that the person able to boast about actually having attended Tennessee is the superior fan.

If you think that I am any less of a UT fan because I lived in Ohio during HS (was born and raised in TN) and chose to pay an in-state tuition at a Ohio school (over paying 3 times that much for out-of-state at UT) then I say to you that I will meet you at Neyland this week and invite you to challenge my fanhood in person.

Telling me that I am any less of a vol than you because of where I lived is a good way to get knocked on your a**.

My take on the topic: To a "fan" the university might mean no more to you than the sports teams your pull for. To an alumni there is a bit more to it, but the fanhood or loyalty to the "teams" might be on the same level as someone that did not attend the University. As someone that lived on campus for a couple years and spent 5 of the best years of my life there as a student. There is a bit more of your heart that goes into it as an alumni... because you are a University of Tennessee Volunteer, not just a fan.

I can see where an alumnus would have the right to say they were a true fan....Even when I post I try to use 'Tennessee' or 'Vols' instead of 'we' or 'us'....In reality, the only ones that can use 'we' or 'us' is the guys that have put on that Tennessee uniform....Having said that, if someone that attended UT told me I wasn't a 'true' Tennessee Volunteer football fan because I didn't go to college there, it would be hard for me not to slap the taste out of their mouths...

Why do alums think they are more of a fan than the rest of us? I thought college education was supposed to keep you from being ignorant?

If we were to theoretically have no discernible differences between ourselves in regards to the Tennessee Volunteers aside from the fact that I am an alumnus and you are not, then you better believe that I am more of a fan than you are.

I have known a lot of people that graduated UT and could care less about any of the UT sports teams that I love dearly and support. So the logic that alums are more of a fan than non alums is absolutely absurd.

Ok buddy. You go ahead and think that.

Your complete lack of reading comprehension skills, as well as your inability to differentiate between the words "could" and "couldn't," make the reasons for your diploma saying "University of Phoenix" as opposed to "University of Tennessee" rather clear.

Ok, good job. Your corrected 1 word in my statement, kudos to you. But you still have never addressed my other question I have presented in this thread.

Yes, because a UT degree is widely regarded as being on par with the Stanfords and Vanderbilts of the world.

People as arrogant as you should not display your type of ignorace on the net.

I know lots of UT alum that would be ashamed to be associated with someone like you.

You would have to ask an alumnus that considers himself to automatically be a superior fan to anyone who did not attend the University of Tennessee.

People might not like me? Shocker!

99% of Bama fans don't even know where Tuscaloosa is, but yet they are fans of the school!
