Calling LWS

have not heard. IMO, his comments were responses to a question and I don't believe he or anyone would be negative at this juncture. People invested in program are not going to throw anyone in the program under the bus JMO

Unless it's the energy bus. Gotta keep those energy vampires away :)

I dont understand the posters that seem to gloat about the fact that UT will hire another loser.

It's like...

"I dont care who you want to coach, and neither, does the AD. The fact is they are going to hire another Butch or Dooley, because its how we do things. If you don't like it bye!"

What is wrong with these people?
Nobody's gloating about anything. Just seen this play out too many times and I have no faith that this time will be any different. I hope I'm wrong.

Jim Haslam played on the 1951 NC team, and was captain of the 1952 team. He has also said that applying what he learned from General Neyland to business made him successful. He's close to Johnny Majors, and close to the Manning family (or at least has been in the past).

I have no idea what his philosophy on hiring coaches for UT might be, but I can tell you he absolutely bleeds orange, and wants the Vols to be great as much as any of us. I can tell you that Jim (and Jimmy and Bill) are good people.

Go Vols!

If that's true then he should stay out of it and let the AD do his job.

Same as when others were asked why they seem to gloat over UT losing, and why they seem to hate UT.

"Yore stupid if that's what you think'

So I have gathered from Larry's comments that we are almost sure Butch will be fired, unless a miracle happens. The AD is treading lightly because he is new on the scene, and doesn't want to piss the boosters off that he pissed off when they fired Fulmer. Their is a billionaire pissing contest going on behind the scenes for control of Haslam's lead booster position. There is a similar situation with the Board of Trustees. Peyton is starting to try and influence this group with some success. Is that an accurate assessment of his comments?

So here we are in about the worst leadership position we can be in trying to make the next homerun hire. This is a cluster &*^% from the get go. There is no way I can see a homerun hire wanting to deal with that, no matter how much money is thrown at him. The recruiting class is beginning to fall apart. You hear all these big names being thrown out there, but my question is who are we going to be able to afford after the $11 million buyout? The boosters didn't pony up the money for the Fulmer or Dooley buyouts. So Tennessee tax payers foot the bill. And now we have to hope that Currie, who has never hired anybody, can make the right hire. How confident is Volnation in Currie after recent ADs are responsible for the atrocious way in which Fulmer was canned, the Kiffin episode, Doolander, and now Butch's contract extension? I can smell the mattresses burning already.

Larry, thanks for your behind the scene input as always. I appreciate it. If you have anything more to add to this, I will hang up and listen.

Anyone hear if Butch got into some possible legal trouble over the last couple days and Currie is trying to find a way to get out of paying the buyout?

Yea, in the thread dedicated to this info.

It finally came out that the closed parts of practice have featured a pentagrammed Circle of Death, which has been the cause of all of our injuries. It would've been much worse if the players hadn't ignored Butch's cries of "Finish him!", but it seems to have put him in a contractual grey area.

Well, one good thing about Currie is he hired Weber that went undefeated and lost the NCAA championship game in basketball. Maybe he does the same thing here and hires Chip Kelly

I'd be very careful trust anything you hear on a forum.

One thing I'll say for Currie, he has cut down leaks out of the AD.

I have a client/friend who is a mega donor (name on building, former BOT) and not a blip. In the past, it was different.

Wish the like button were active because I would most assuredly apply it to this 😁
