So I have gathered from Larry's comments that we are almost sure Butch will be fired, unless a miracle happens. The AD is treading lightly because he is new on the scene, and doesn't want to piss the boosters off that he pissed off when they fired Fulmer. Their is a billionaire pissing contest going on behind the scenes for control of Haslam's lead booster position. There is a similar situation with the Board of Trustees. Peyton is starting to try and influence this group with some success. Is that an accurate assessment of his comments?
So here we are in about the worst leadership position we can be in trying to make the next homerun hire. This is a cluster &*^% from the get go. There is no way I can see a homerun hire wanting to deal with that, no matter how much money is thrown at him. The recruiting class is beginning to fall apart. You hear all these big names being thrown out there, but my question is who are we going to be able to afford after the $11 million buyout? The boosters didn't pony up the money for the Fulmer or Dooley buyouts. So Tennessee tax payers foot the bill. And now we have to hope that Currie, who has never hired anybody, can make the right hire. How confident is Volnation in Currie after recent ADs are responsible for the atrocious way in which Fulmer was canned, the Kiffin episode, Doolander, and now Butch's contract extension? I can smell the mattresses burning already.
Larry, thanks for your behind the scene input as always. I appreciate it. If you have anything more to add to this, I will hang up and listen.
