Calling for an immediate suspension

No, if it's before the whistle there are no limits...There was no difference between that hit and a receiver coming over the middle and getting his bell rung!

That's garbage. I'm the first one to complain on these boards about how Americans have lost the toughness that earned us respect in sports, politics, and everywhere else, but if you're going to level someone who can't possibly have any impact on the play at hand, and will not have any impact from said point until the whistle, it is cheap to level him, especially in such a manner.

Here's a close as I seem to be able to get from the wide shot on YouTube:

This is a split second AFTER the other two. There's plenty of separation between helmets here..
I'd like to see this angle in slow motion.

Regarding the post about UFC drug testing, they do. They have suspended several fighters for positive weed tests and they ban for steroids.

IMO, it's college wrestling with boxing gloves. I find it altogether unwatchable.

I completely disagree. I was disgusted by it years ago when it was absolutely no rules and guys were out to break limbs and so forth. But I enjoy it now, much more than boxing, some of that is because it is promoted better and it draws my attention. The participants are much more interesting.

I think I'm going to have to shoot a home video showing how to PROPERLY block at any point on the field. I just may have to throw one in on proper tackling.

The problem with the YouTube video is that it's a camcorder on a small-screen TV, which pretty well kills any clarity. Does anyone have a direct feed onto a computer we could look at?

I don't have the gear to output.

Believe it or not, no biggie to me. I know what's in front of me.

I understand.

My only point is. Based on what I read earlier in this thread it was a 'clear' helmet led, spearing penalty, no where near the action.

What I see is a debatable call within a yard of the ball carrier. You can't suspend players on that. Could a penalty have been called? That could have gone either way.

Well given the current state of boxing, who doesn't?

Personally, i find the UFC to be for people who loved pro wrestling til they were 22, became embarassed of the fact, and moved to MMA instead.

Boxing is not as screwy as the Pro Wrestlers claim it to be, there is a hierarchy that is generally respected throughout the sport, which would be The Ring magazine ratings. UFC is run much like the WWE, with an ownership group, with 'fighters' under contract. That said, the 'fighters' who fight for titles are determined by the owners, who will hype up these high school bullies turned adults to get a few ignorami to pay to watch it live.

There is no gentlemanly conduct, they grapple and kick rather than stand face to face respectfully and fight to determine the better man.

Please do not include any Tyson references in replies, as doing so will show a total lack of knowledge in boxing, and therefore no ability to debate the subject honestly

First, most high school bullies would have their heads handed to them by these professional fighters. And apparently they are getting more than a "few ignorami" to watch these as UFC is wiping the floor with wrestling and boxing in terms of PPV dollars.

There is just as much if not more gentlemanly conduct in UFC, they repsectfully shake hands after a match just as most boxers do. You can enjoy boxing more if you like but to claim some higher ground that exists in boxing is just plain foolish.

Yeah, like I said, I wouldn't go so far as to say it was intentional, but it was poor blocking form when he could have just wrapped him up and de-cleated him. He hunkered down and drove upwards with his shoulders, but happened to make helmet contact first.

He was close enough to the runner to warrant getting blocked.

Penalty, for sure imho.

I think my next crusade will be on drilling someone when he's about to step out of bounds by head-butting. That's even more flagrant to me, and not just because I once saw a teammate get head-rammed about three yards out of bounds (which knocked him out for the season, I might add).

It is much easier to prove intent in a situation like this. I understand that some teams develop dirty reputations, but I think it is fair to the athlete to judge him over a career. If he continues to stick his helmet in earholes intentionally then that will provide a much fairer assessment.

The ball carrier receiver also bears some responsibilty to run with his head up.
