California Lunacy Thread

Hog is trying to have his "States rights" cake and eat it to which leads to him making ridiculous arguments.

I am a big States rights guy too, but at some point a State forfeits their rights and California is putting themselves in that position now. The Feds have a right to enforce immigration law unimpeded.

Yes they do. The fed also has the right to defend it's officers, they just need to use their law enforcement officers to do so and not the military.

We have US citizens and non-citizens attacking federal officers, preventing them from performing federal duties, and attacking federal buildings. It seems to be a federal jurisdiction.

Fine, send in more federal law enforcement. Leave the military out of it.

Exactly which additional federal law enforcement would you send? FBI? Federal Marshals? Is any federal law enforcement agency adequately staffed and equipped to deal with large scale civic unrest?

Send them all. And yes, way to many federal law enforcement agencies have paramilitary wings well equipped to handle this.

all valid questions

Lol, semantics. Federal law enforcement is currently spread thin due to nation wide immigration enforcement.

Yeah I'm the clown. Sorry that I don't want the federal government deploying troops in our cities and having them fire on civilians.
Lol
There was a President that did that and I consider him the worst person to ever hold the office.
He's not going to have people fire on the insurrectionist unless self-defense

I often don't agree with the hogster, but at least he's reasonably consistent in his view of state's rights.
What do you when a state allows this? When the state supports the attacking of law enforcement with no plan to help, (all for political reasons) when is that line crossed?

The President has an OBLIGATION to ensure the safety of Federal ICE agents. If a State cant ensure Federal agents are protected to carry out lawful duties, then the President has the obligation to protect them by whatever means necessary. Whether that is bringing in more Federal officers, National Guard or military. Doesnt matter.

Send in more federal law enforcement, goodness knows that we have a plethora of the useless individuals but keep the military/NG at home.

Frankly if ICE just pulled out a week or two and let this cool down and come back, things could be different.

However, rounding up illegals, IMO, is still not the best way unless you can 100% show they are gang members. Best way to get the illegals to go home is to cut all benefits to them.

Giving rioters what they were asking for is the textbook way to have them NOT riot again in a couple of weeks when ICE resumes their job.

There have been plenty of riots in Nashville and Memphis.

Granted, a lot of these riots are media sensualized and don't happen throughout the city like depicting in chatter but often only in a few blocks.
Well if you're going to have a riot at least it could be a sexy one. Have the Victoria Secret angels ever rioted?

the department chief literally says they are "overwhelmed". Thought Gavin said everything was kosher.

"McDonnell also revealed that he respects U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, adding that they are a “fellow law enforcement agency.”

“To the people who are not happy with the fact that ICE is in the community doing what ICE does — I respect ICE for being a fellow law enforcement agency. They have their mission, they have their … what they have to do. We don’t engage in that activity, but again, we can’t preclude them from doing that. They have every right to do that,” McDonnell said.

“This violence that I’ve seen is disgusting, it’s escalated now since the beginning of this incident. What we saw the first night was bad, what we’ve seen subsequent to that is getting increasingly worse and more violent. Tonight we had individuals out there shooting commercial grade fireworks at our officers, that can kill you,” McDonnell added. “We have adapted our tactics to have a chance to take these people into custody, and to be able to hold them accountable. We are overwhelmed as far as the number of people out there engaged in this type of activity, and the type of things that they are doing.”

I disagree that things would cool down. These are not organic spontaneous „protests“. They are organized staged riots by professional rabble rousers. The people and funds will be staged wherever needed, including back in LA if the need arises

They'll be back to barricading and destroying everything as soon as ICE is on site again. It's prime opportunity for the left to blame the Trump administration.

Edit: right on cue as seen in the post just below this one.
