California Lunacy Thread

“Governor Newsom has built a career demonizing the U.S. oil and natural gas industry. Now he wants California refineries to stay open. Some ideas, Governor: Scrap your EV mandate, stop villainizing American energy workers, and end the costly refinery regulations YOU put in place,” Mike Sommers, the president and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute, wrote.
“Governor Newsom’s letter to the California Energy Commission directing it to ‘redouble’ its efforts to work closely with refiners so ‘they see the value in serving the California market’ is laughable and a blatant effort to cover his backside,” Chet Thompson, the CEO of the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers, remarked.
He added, “State policies, not the new administration in Washington, are why fuel manufacturers struggle to operate in California and why California drivers face the highest fuel prices in the country.”

Why can't people understand that?

Because it’s horses****. Nobody wants to be pulled over. Nobody wants to pay a fine. Nobody wants to risk losing their license. Nobody wants to go to jail. Of course there are exceptions to this where some people just don’t care about laws, regulations, rules, going to jail, etc, and will always be worthless.

Trying to act like a centrist. Nobody with any intelligence is buying the **** he's trying to sell.

You are wrong and you know it. Maga on.

We have people openly advocating for unequal punishment by the government? Nuts.

"The blindfold on Lady Justice symbolizes impartiality and fairness in the legal system, meaning that justice should be applied without bias, prejudice, or outside influence. She is blindfolded to ensure that her decisions are based solely on evidence and law, not on a person's appearance, status, or other irrelevant factors. "

Jesus folks. Come on.

Then everyone should show up in court dressed in an orange jumpsuit without attorneys and no reference to employeement status.
That blindfold on lady Justice is so she doesn't see what the heck is going on.

“The Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right to counsel, meaning that if you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to represent you in court“

And that court appointed attorney will be so happy to serve pro bono. Will dedicate time and resources in your defense.

How about for non-traffic fines?

You do realize defendants don't appear in front of juries in jumpsuits until after conviction right? And the part about lawyers is too dumb to respond to

WTF would you need a law firm to defend you for a basic traffic violation especially if you’re guilty. My god you’re dense.
I’ve gone to court to get out of a speeding ticket lol they are no lawyers there., you just talk to the judge and you typically get it dropped if it’s the only offense you have and you don’t act like an a-hole.. 😂

Furthermore, if you are ok with the government choosing punishment unequally, what stops them from using other filters? What filters are you not ok with. This is pretty gross

Not likely. Rich folks have attorneys folks don't. It's much easier for the county to collect of poor drivers than rich. DWP driving while poor is a real thing

Not true at all. Poorer cities, such as Memphis, have had issues for decades getting fines paid. They have $200 million of unpaid fines on the books as of 2020....

I hired an attorney to represent my son for a speeding ticket, cost less than the insurance premium increase for 3 teenage drivers…..I’ve also just paid a ticket, so the situation call for the effort

It’s an option for sure but not something everyone utilizes or needs.
