They can't manage their own state yet they want to tell other states how to to goveern and manage themselves. California is a joke. If they were a business they would have folded and went under 10 years ago. They need to get their own house in order, THEN other states might listen.
This crap is hilarious. Its like your homeless/jobless friend giving you life advice. You just smile, shake your head and ignore it.
I applaud California's decision and think they should add a few other backward states to the list, including South Carolina, Louisiana and Arkansas, the last having just installed the ten commandments in front of the capitol building. Wait, is it 2017 or 1817? (I'm betting that the commandments will be removed fairly soon as a lawsuit has been filed, and texas tried the same silliness and had to remove the 10 religious rules, which of course belong on private church and not public grounds. Public organizations should not be promoting religion--but the south still hasn't got the message.) Otherwise, California is a progressive state that is leading the way in environmental protection and other pressing issues. Jerry Brown is a smart, forward-thinking politician, and he and others in that state are tired of southern yahoos passing regressive laws aimed at women, gays, the environment, workers, and on and on. I'm betting UCLA and Southern Cal won't shed any tears about not spending a weekend in texas or alabama--or tennessee.

No doubt you are entitled to your opinion on what constitutes separation of church and state. But for you to imply that the state of California is leading the country in anything other than loony actors, is a stretch.
California's disastrous state leadership is only overshadowed by the meltdown that was Illinois and potentially Connecticut.
Here's hoping the 8 states double down on their resolutions and force the California schools to stay in their own sandbox.
So why is another state trying to force their laws and opinions on another state? What's next? Are they gonna go totally nut job liberal like Antifa and try and use force to to impose their views and laws on other states?
And all those corporations backing this.. they may not like the laws in those states but I bet they sure enjoy the dollars those poor backward folks spend for their products.
The politicians of the state of California need to STFU and let the people decide whether or not to visit or do business in those states.
That's the problem nowadays.. the government is trying to legislate every decision for us.. like a bunch of sheep. What has happened to folks? Having a back bone and making decisions for themselves? I don't need the government telling me where to go, where and how to spend my money. It's starting at a state funding level but give it a few years and those nuts will wanna close their borders (to everyone but Mexico) and you will need a passport to get in.
The world is going to ****..
What's your issue with the South? You somehow manage to insert a hate of the South into every topic of conversation. If you're not from here but chose to come to school down here, why? If you're from here and wanted to get out so bad, why did you choose to stay here for school? If you're not from here and didn't go to school down here then why follow UT and hang around a message board full of backwards southerners?
Off topic, but don't completely blame the agriculture side for the water issues. It's true, almonds are one of the most inefficient users of water when it comes to fruit and nut trees, but those guys have had to pull up a lot of orchards in order to devote scarce water resources to other crops. The drought they were in is the predominant cause but was compounded by devoting the limited water they had to the protection of some worthless minnow rather than sending it to needed farmland and households.
Great post. What's funny is the irony of his post or their kind of thinking. He's calling out states he doesn't live in about the Ten Commandments being at a building just as California would yet there's millions without water there. They need to worry about their own dumbazz self and citizens.
Unrelated story but I'm sure armchair loves the progressiveness and supports this whole heartedly.

I do. What's the point in having a law on the books if you're not going to follow it?
Would t matter to souther cal and your beloved Jerry Brown is also taking state funded trips to China who outlaws and jails homosexuals so it's all just a bunch of bs
Why the fear of the 10 commandments? If you don't believe in God they shouldn't bother you one iota.
OR ... Just MAYBE.... these states could stop passing antiquated, bigoted laws and join the rest of the world (well except theocracies like Iran, and Saudi Arabia, etc who think totalitarian state sanctioned bigotry is ok) and start acting like its post 2010 and not the 1800s. Besides, what does California get from any of those states? Better players come out of CA anyway. They could go poach players in FL, GA, VA. There is nothing CA need from those 8 states. They lose NOTHING by not travelling there. However, those 8 states NEED CA - BAD!
Like Saudi Arabia? Russia?
Idiot, he's going to work with the real leaders of the world, including China on creating jobs, especially green energy jobs, so CA, and hopefully the US can be the world leader in future energy programs, not letting China take over as the leader we are trying to catch up because some folks decided they dont like progress, they want to worry about 70k coal jobs and pipeline that will create less than 10k jobs. its called having a vision for the future of the country, not holding onto the past.
You either progress or you fall behind. The world will not stop for us. JB sees it, knows it, and so do other governors and tech companies, including Exxon who is investing billions in biofuel. Jerry is leading here too.
The south does not own patriotism nor does it define "real" America. You may believe it, but its false, just like a great many of your beliefs. I can be a UT alum and fan and come to this site to get information about my school. GO read the posts on here. If any bias exists, its anti-liberal/left. I come here for sports, not to argue politics with people who have little to no grasp on reality. They spout conservative talking points like they are fact. It makes my head head explode too.
The whole idea, well if aint aint from here, then dont come round here, crap is a bunch of BS. Ive lived in NY & CA - 2 of the bluest states. I've lived in TN & UT - 2 red states. I've lived in FL - very red where I lived. You know the difference though? I've never heard a NYer say to a southerner to go back where he came from. I've never heard a Californian ask someone why they're here, or imply they aren't wanted. They might think you're an ignorant, knuckle dragging bigot, but they're not going to say it. They probably wont even notice you if you just go with the flow. NY, CHI, SF, LA - it doesnt matter if you're white, asian, black, spanish, gay, straight, etc. You can be whatever you want to be. Just dont be a jerk. But in the South its not that way. You either fit in, learn to fit in, or you need to go.
This is why there is a push back. Anyone with a liberal, or even just open mind and opinion on here is ridiculed. Any push back is met with ire.
I think we just want to invite everyone to join us in the 21 century and leave the divisions, and bigotry, and sexism, homophobia, etc behind. Bury the hate for the liberal and instead embrace an exchange of ideas. Learn something
Except CA "disastrous" leadership has made it the 6th largest economy in the world. It is the leader in technology, education, renewable energy, yes - some "looney actors". But you see CA is leading the country into a better future. Why on earth would you want to stay living in the 1800's? Name me one thing TN, AL, MS, etc lead the nation in. One! Its nothing. Further, there is no opinion on separation of church and state. Church teaching, ideas, laws, etc stay out of government. I dont care that people want to blur those lines. Its separate or its mingled - cant be a little bit. If these states would join the 21st century and not pass bigoted laws, then maybe, there wouldnt be issues. Maybe, its not ok to discriminate based on color, religion, sexuality. My source for that is the constitution. My other source is that Bible everyone is so fond of around here, but only use it to find a reason to discriminate instead of getting its message - Love one another, forgive, help each other. What a country, sports and crazy laws and all, we'd have if we just loved and cared for each other, even if we disagree.
Its also amazing how an article about one state's law gets everyone so angry and ready to force CA to leave the US. The trope that you're not a "real" American unless your rom the heartland is old and false. America includes us all. Go sing the song "this land is your land" Cities, farms, rural and urban, republican & dem, liberal and conservative, young, old, immigrant, etc. Its all of us. To think otherwise is un-American. Freedom of speech, of religion (or no religion), free press, etc.
Lets keep all this off here and talk sports. But if we need to bring it here, realize what being American is about. Its not just your way of thinking
Not a fear - they dont belong in government. Goverment represents all people, not just christians or people of a faith. It represents, Sihks, Ba'hai, Muslim, Jewish, Atheists, etc. To have a "christian" icon on the building that is supposed to be secular violates the ideals of our democracy.
There is to be a separation between the two for a reason. Our laws in the US are NOT based on the bible. They are based the Magna Carta and the philosophical writings of people such as Montesquieu, John Locke, David Hume, Plutarch, Cicero, Thomas Hobbes, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Alexander Pope, John Milton, Tacitus and Voltaire. No Bible. In some Federalist writings you might see St. Paul quoted, to grant that point. But, no 10 commandments, no Jesus, no nothing.
