‘23 CA QB Nicholaus Iamaleava (Tennessee)

Mac Jones had arguably one of the best WR tandems in college football history. Also, the people that developed him aren’t at Bama anymore. Heupel turned a 3* QB that had nowhere near the weapons Jones had into one of the SECs best QBs.
Hooker was a 4* out of high school, and 3* Mac Jones was from Fla, he would be a 5* if he was from pretty much any other state. Right?

Take him and show him the Manning room and tell him you win big here and this is what you get.

"Hey, Peyton, it's Coach Heupel. Listen, d'ya think you could maybe stop by the school for a couple hours on March 5th?? I got someone that I'd really like you to meet."

I like where you are going BUT he has said that he wants to be where he is loved and really wanted The Manning Room is a tribute to what Tennessee consider it chosen one. We don't recruit him with Manning we recruit to be THE next Manning at Tennessee. In 1994 the stars aligned for Fulmer when he got Manning and in 2023 with CJH system if he gets him the stars could most definitely align for him.

I question who (on his list) can offer a better offense and development as a QB.

I don't see anyone on his list. Just stacked teams that make people look good without actual development.

See: every Saban Bama QB once in the NFL
Don't want to be a hater but who is a Heupel QB that has succeeded in the NFL?

In 15 years of coaching, three of his starters have ended up in the league - one as QB coach and two as an OC. Bradford didn't take the next step in the league and Landry was never starter caliber but finished with a long career as a backup and Drew Lock may or may not develop. He's still just 25.

Also, Gabriel may get drafted - Oklahoma was a solid choice. And I think people forgot how much hype Mackenzie Milton had before the injury.

He hasn't hit a top 10 quarterback in the league yet, but he also has a pretty solid track record.

Yep Heupel job is to give them an opportunity and it’s their job to take advantage of it. Once upon of time Air Raid QBs we’re college stars that busted in NFL but that has started to change as the game in pros has spread out more. Bradford in today’s game is likely more successful. He also had injuries to his knees that hurt his progression. Didn’t he have Martz as his coach who could not adapt once defenses figured out his offenses and he started becoming known for getting his QBs killed and not protecting them in his play calling?

Drew Lock is probably the most talented QB he has coached and he made him from potential bust to 2nd rd pick. Lock hasn’t been in the most ideal situation in Denver with a new OC almost every year.

Most his other QBs coaches have been guys that are physically limited to an extent by NFL measures but he still puts up prolific offenses. With the type of kids he can pull to TN at the position I think you will see him start putting more guys in league with more success. Hooker will be more of the Tyrod/Bridgewater type QB in pros. Milton and Tayven have tools to become stars. In Miltons case it’s mental. If it ever clicks he can be as good as anyone with that cannon. I’m a big fan of Tayven.

Hate away. While you’re at it, how many have excelled from the Urban Meyer or Saban trees? Mac Jones MAY be Saban’s first. Alex Smith is the closest for Urban. Heupel has coached up the talent he’s had available and many have been drafted on those merits. OPPORTUNITY to display your talent is the best you can hope for…then it’s on your innate talent.

I'm not saying he's a bad coach, he's one of if not the best QB evaluators and developers in college football. But the original post was saying he wouldn't go to Alabama because their QBs don't work out in the NFL. He used that logic but then thought he was coming here.

The point was the person was saying he isn't going to a school because they don't have good NFL QBs under Saban but he is coming here. I think Heupel is a great coach for QBs to come to and we are in a great spot with Nico. But someone can't use one thing as for why a recruit won't go to another school but ignore it when it is us lol

Might see this as backwards, but every QB that Heupel coaches that blows up in CFB but fails in the NFL, is actually a testament to how good Heupel is. Any decent coach should be capable of winning with a superstar QB (see: Chizik, Gene), but turning a decent QB into a Heisman contender is saying something.

I said Successful in NFL, not college
It's not Heupels job to continue coaching them in the NFL... so why is it honestly relevant? He did a hell of a job with D Lock at Missouri. All he has to do is consistently put qbs in the league for their shot. Not be held accountable because non are HOF.

Ya… Heupel’s Veer and Shoot offense doesn’t translate well whatsoever into the NFL. There’s been articles on Art Briles’s veer and shoot analyzing the extreme differences in philosophy from that system to the NFL offenses and the quarterbacks in it. But luckily for us all I care about is how well TENNESSEE does….
