Bye bye Butch - Purdue bound (message board rumor)

Butch Jones would leave UT for a few jobs. A very few jobs and none of them are open.

And if those jobs did come open, none would have him. I can tell you whether you want to believe it or not, this was more than tire kicking and leveraging. Had just about any program that had the slightest bit of football tradition offered him for the same money and paid the buyout, he would have given it serious thought and probably left. It goes into several factors, two big ones are that we have to play Bama every year most likely twice to get to the playoff and he feels unappreciated here. He thinks the fans have unrealistic expectations. I should tell you that I'm a huge Butch fan but my confidence in his ability to deliver has taken a hit this year.

Just when it seems dumb can't rear its ugly head any higher...

Purdue was NEVER on the table and Jones isn't looking anywhere else.

Also in the news, Santa, the Easter Bunny and tooth fairy aren't real.

This has got to be the dumbest post I've ever seen on here, or anywhere for that matter. I sit on santas lap and asked for a tonka truck when I was 5, and got it! So hush!

Kicking tires may be common practice but I never heard this come out when Fulmer was the coach.

It is very common practice, and everyone didn't have a smartphone with a Twitter account back then. 24-hour news cycles, microwave attention spans, unchecked rumors started by anonymous figures hiding behind a keyboard on the internet or partially true stories blown out of proportion taken as fact and snowballing as the truth... New day and age today. Not necessarily a plus in many, many instances.

I think people confuse an agent doing his job trying to maximize his clients compensation with direct actual interest by the client/coach. The two aren't necessarily even related if the agent is just out testing the waters and fishing for a raise.

Right now those jobs are not open and with his limited resume here you're correct they wouldn't take him.
However I know the few schools and it would take a helluva lot more than just "some football tradition" type school to lure him away.
Like all coaches who are at big programs he's baffled at times by fan behavior. Need I remind everyone of some of the outbursts Saban has delivered over the years at bammer?
The reality is he was NOT and is NOT seriously looking to leave UT. That is a fact.

...but coaches don't ever look elsewhere for their own benefit...gotcha.

Actually not much at all. That's why they have these things called agents.

Do you think if the new AD would have been in place we would be going down a different route?

I have a huge problem with that one.

This is exactly right.
Also the raise gives the agent a raise. It's their job to do this. Emotions have nothing to do with it.

I don't think so. I think some of the stuff ReaderVol is saying is true. From what I've heard, he was in talks with one school, I'm sure ReaderVOL would agree it's one he'd leave for, right after the SC game. I think ReaderVOl and I agree that it would take certain programs for him to leave, I just think the list of programs is a lot longer than ReaderVol thinks it its.

Given that, we need an AD yesterday. He needs to be in place to help Butch with hiring staff members, giving Butch funds to work with in that regard, and negotiating contracts.

You're right. Some football tradition and money. As to the Saban's comments to his fans, he has equity that Butch doesn't possess.

I seriously doubt he would actually leave Tenn on his own. His agent may do a bit of posturing to try to bleed more money out of the AD.

There is only one issue with this. Butch leaving now would save himself in the long run. If we finish at 9-4 or 8-5 this year and go 8/9 wins next year with no SEC East Title, his stock will damage even worse. Because he will be seen as the guy who can't get it done at Tennessee in the poor division. That hurts him more coaching at a big program than just leaving and saying our fan base is irrational and being labeled "wasn't up to the challenge" by our fans. Which I am totally apart of...

If he was 10 years older, you definitely don't walk away from that buyout if you get fired. However, he has NFL ambitions and those hopes are cratering day by day.

Sooooooooooo... UT let their coach us their plane to go try and get a job at another school?

LOL you cannot make stuff like this up. We have some mind blowing dumb on here.

Butch ain't using UT's plane for recruiting he said he was gonna do post Vandy Game.

Every agent for every coach in America does this.
Yes even Saban's boy Jimmy Sexton does this for him. It's how they (coaches and agents) make a living.
Car salesmen sell cars for as much as they can. Insurance agents push the highest policies etc. It's a business to them plain and simple.

False.... Sexton isn't out pushing Saban's name to other schools for more money. Also, had Butch not lost to USC and Vandy and had won the A&M game, he would have been given the keys to the castle.... Dude failed even though he said his system is "championship caliber." His stock on the downtrend and Tennessee isn't his dream job. He wants to be an NFL coach.

This thread starts with a legitimate question..."Any chance Butch checks out Cincy?"

The next few posts don't deal in absolutes...ex: he "might" be looking...I "doubt" he will leave...

And then RV drops his knowledge with this little gem.

Just when it seems dumb can't rear its ugly head any higher...

Purdue was NEVER on the table and Jones isn't looking anywhere else.

Also in the news, Santa, the Easter Bunny and tooth fairy aren't real.

This completely changes the dynamic of the thread. It's insulting (dumb rearing its ugly head) and condescending.

RV is not interested in a discussion. He's only interested in forcing the absolutes of his own tiny world. He doesn't want you to share your speculation, but he wants to share his.

RV doesn't know. He should probably stop acting like he does.

way to go...I believed Butch wasn't going anywhere, but now you've really ruined everything...spreading hate and dissent by saying my three favorite things aren't real...you need a time out...now, go to your room...:tease2:

GO VOLS!
