Butch's system

Yah, I think the system is fine. It's the play calling and player development that seems suspect.

How many times does are drive stop unless dobbs somehow pulls a Houdini and gets ten or more on a scramble?

I think the system and the play calling is crap.

I just wonder why we throw the ball 3 yards downfield on a 3rd and 10.

This blows my mind. Dobbs will over trust his OL and get stacked yet 3rd and 10 he dumps it off in .0003 seconds. But surely DeBord is not telling him to throw it short on purpose? We've all seen Dobbs panic when he doesn't think he has time.

I see a lot of posters who say that Butch is a bit of a control freak who will only run his system. My question is whether or not that is actually a problem. We've seen games where this offense is successful. I think with proper coaching, this right personnel, and more aggressive play calling, this offense could do what we need it to. Debord has seemed too conservative at times, and the offense has thrived when he opens the playbook. Thoughts?

Well the system wasnt good with jalen Hurd running out of the read option. How in the world could every single fan watching at home recognize what a coach that makes 4 million a year is incapable of seeing? Is that shocking to anyone else? Hurd is very slow to get going (for a rb) and has zero elusiveness. Running out of a power formation on short yardage situations could work for him but he should've been a te all along. His talent was wasted. And the took the moral of the entire team down with him

Butch's system needed more Kamara, faster lineman and the ability to fool a defense. I'm not a scout or anything but I could tell where and what we would run 90% of the time.

Sometimes his two minute offense was awesome. Might of tried that at other times during games except when you are down and running out of time.

I'm already speaking of Butch like he's gone. Lord only knows how many more years of this we got to watch. And we have to watch, cause that's our squad.

UT/Gators game 3rd quarter I think, that crossing pattern to a WR(Jennings?)that went for a big chunk of yards. It may not be fact but It feels like the best play the Vols have ran in years. It felt like old off tackle break away runs Travis used to get, a little taste. But I'm not a fan of CBJ's offense, personally I prefer power I two TE's and a pocket QB.

I'm guessing you have to be somewhat of a control freak if you're a head coach in the SEC. But the defense lost us the vandy game.

Butch jones system is to put a 4 qtr game plan together each week, and preaches to players and staff that if we stick to this plan we should win. Butch has never made in game dicisions. That's why he sucks at it. No experience. He has no idea when to go for two. Even his post game bull is scripted. If we lose comment card in his left pocket and win card in his right. A good coach could have beat someone they shouldn't have with his first two recuiting classes. Butch just kept saying its a process, no depth, too young. Instead of preaching win baby win. No ones coming to rocky top and push us around. He always blames the team, especially when his in game dicisions cost us several times. Butch can't go hire just anybody he really needs, because they have to buy into he's system period. Look at Shoops one of the best defensive minds out there. Put very good teams together no matter who he worked for. Until he met Lyle Jones. Butch made it look like Shoops had never coached a day in his life. Even with the injuries our 2nd team d had much more talent than candy ever had. Cincinnati had to hear inch by inch. We are getting buried brick by brick as long as butch is our coach.

It's the conservative, predictable play calling that is the problem. If a defense can key on the RB's 1st move and crash the run lanes and be right 90% of the time and get the stop.

"Behind the chains" is the the worst ever, if the game plan doesn't allow a bust play on 1st or 2nd down and still have a way to get the 1st down or score the TD. It's like when we get behind the chains we give up on that possession and prepare to punt.

On the 3rd and longs we need to start throwing it long at least long enough if the catch is made we get the 1st down.

How many times did throwing on 1st down work? The reason we didn't was the ole "Behind the chains" mentality, that's got to stop.

Get it together Butch!

Go Vols!

You are right . It was a complete schematic issue . Dobbs cant hit intermediate routes. The defense is all in the box just daring him to hit those passes. Cant run up the middle ...so you try to the outside and zones .

The problem was the scheme ...which they seem to have fixed after scar
