Butch sure is getting the attention.

I am not for firing him. But I sure am for some accountability.

Today I learned that if you say the coaches screwed up, you aren't a real fan, you're bringing down the entire program and destroying the team.

In the same boat. I like jones as a man, as an ambassador of the program, I like his fire for the game and his ability to attract and motivate top recruits which is why I truly hope to God he succeeds here. However, that being said I am a fan of THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE first and foremost. Whoever is at the helm, if they aren't doing well and are long enough in their tenure that it's no longer excusable then we need a new someone who can be successful. Sad truth of college football.

The OK and FL game practically ruined all the work Butch has been doing for 3 years. And it's all his own doing. All this negative attention he's getting is deserved. Tennessee should be 4-0, highly ranked and respected again, and it's not thanks to no one but Butch Jones.

He's got a lot of work to do to salvage is reputation.

Quote of the day was Travis saying if Butch Jones was a doctor, his coaching job Saturday was the equivalent to choking out a patient during an appendectomy. Lol. Truer words have never been spoken.

Watching College Football Live and I just saw a video clip of Butch Jones jumping out on to the field because he thought Medley made the second kick. He may be nuts for real. Had to laugh.

I've been paying attention to everything I can from local media, to online sources, to ESPN, and SEC Network, even forum boards of his former teams, neither of which had anything positive to say about what transpired. If Butch Jones was getting away with being just a great recruiter and a terrible game day coach this conference is the one that will either force him to make better choices or break him and send him packing. He simply won't be allowed to get away with mediocrity and losing games like he may have at previous schools, especially not here at UT. It won't matter what contract Hart concocted for him.

This brings to mind a troubling comment he made at his presser yesterday. When asked if there was a difference in coaching in the SEC versus the MAC or Conf-USA, he responded (and I'm paraphrasing): No, football is football. I have a fundamental disagreement with that statement. He went on to say that the main difference is that coaching decisions are under a microscope. Again, paraphrasing here.

I'm all in for Jones because a coaching change right now would be disastrous for the program. But this mentality of "football is football" is troubling to me.

Sports stations nationwide are all jumping on the bad play calling by UT coach Butch Jones. From all of the local Nashville stations, ESPN, SEC network, and even the Detroit Press (Butch being an alumni of Ferris State), everyone seems to have the same negative opinion about his play calling and lack of game management. I'm waiting for Lester Holt of NBC nightly news to throw in his two cents.
Butch has a Titanium Cranium, and it is going to take a tank-busting round to penetrate that thing, so to speak. The more the media and fanbase heaps ridicule on him the better our chances of getting some common sense into that skull of his.

Humiliation can often be a heck of a motivator. Let's hope it works. Thing is, Butch has at his disposal all the talent he needs to blow up the SEC from here on out, and end up with the last laugh. It just boils down to game-day management philosophy. Will he change, or will he dig in his heels even deeper?

Well if he wasn't doing his best Dooley impersonation in games that really matter he wouldn't be. I think he might have even topped Dooley. Now that's hard to do.

Oh, he has topped Dooley's coaching ineptitude for sure.

CBJ has much better athletes now than Dooley ever did.

And a couple wins and the entire media will be right back praising him. Just like most on this site.

A couple of wins against who...and with such soft coaches? Hardly, but you can stay delusional all you want. To do what you say, butch and Janzek would need to grow a pair...NOW.

What relevant team are we going to beat? He's gotta beat Georgia or Bama to get the fan base excited again. The remainder of the schedule is teams that are down.

If I were him I would seriously be looking for a OC that could turn this around.

Unless of course he just wants to collect his cash for the next ~5 years and retire from football.

That would depend of the 2.

Vandy and North Texas are not gonna move the needle to mention a couple.

Who do you see as 2 that would?

There are some serious issues besides the game management. I'm not with the 'fire Butch' crowd, but we have some issues. We have some elite wrs and no one in the country will ever know their names at this rate. The second half of games expose our ineptitude in the passing game. It also helps the defense when trying to mount a comeback. Opposing teams dare us to throw with nine in the box, knowing we won't. A screen pass on the last series I think would have worked a tad bit better than Dobbs shuffling to the right on third down. We almost ran that series like there were only seconds left in the fourth qtr. It was a very strange site. I put a lot of it on the oc. I think Butch needs to do a 180, and get a fb, and run a traditional offense. We already have punishing backs, great wrs, great TEs, and will eventually have a dominating defense. But I am old school. Maybe I'm wrong.

Wow, reasonable post, you don't see that often here. Yup, there are issues for sure, all stated clearly here. Not sure we can do a 180 at this point in the season, and I'm getting the impression the staff is hiding the QB. It's hard for me to tell if that is warranted, since they refuse to let him throw. Aside from the scheme, there are just individual game decisions that make me scratch my head. If your opponent wants to punt and give you the ball back, please let them. Do not call a time out and give them time to find a way to beat you.

I'm still not inclined to call for Butch's head, but then that's not my style. I'll leave it to the petulant children on the board.

And rightly so. I think most on here still want to see Butch succeed in bringing on a Vol Renaissance. The anger and disappointment is based in the firm confirmation from us all that we are better than this.

If cbj turns this around and manages to drop Bama or GA, I'll be right back on board.

This isn't an impossible situation; find some common damn sense and step on opponents throats in the 2nd halves. We have the talent to beat anyone in the sec east.

The don't think the problem is the OC. It's the head coach micromanaging the offensive play calls.

Has anyone asked Jones how much leeway and authority he grants the OC to make the play calls and strategy?

It's great to get national exposure, but coaches getting exposed nationally is a problem
