Y’all are giving the Botchtern more attention and anguish than he is worth. Just leave him be and let him earn his 35k salary getting water for recruits he lost out on.

I doubt Jones really wanted another HC job right away. If I was in his shoes - I would do the bare minimum to keep the buyout money, relax and enjoy more time with the family and less stress.

This actually keeps him associated with college football in a less stressful job in a position where fans and media are not going to pick at every little thing he says and does. It also gives him time to decide if he really wants to be part of that level of stupidity again.

Or whether or not another school is willing to put themselves through it either on the highest level to hire him. He has been exposed. The "get out" $ makes it a no brainer financially. He's not gonna make that anywhere else.

After watching him peak at UT with 8 regular season and 5 conference wins an average 13th ranked recruiting class over five years, zero D1 schools showed any interest in Butch as an HC.

His ego will not allow him to take a step back to a D2 school where he and his 'system' belong, but I don't doubt for a moment that he'd take a pay cut to be a D1 head coach instead of milking UT for the full buyout.

He’ll never get close enough to it to make an impact one way or the other. He’s essentially in the basement mailroom while Saban and his staff make organizational decisions in the penthouse boardroom.

Only if you think Derek Dooley was too....same exact average recruiting ranking over their tenures here, 13th in the country. “Helluva recruiter” is overstating it for Lyle. Saban is a helluva recruiter, so is Meyer, sure looks like Smart is too. But Jones, nah, not so much.

He basically benefitted from a bunch of legacy players that you or I would have gotten if we had coached here. Other than a few others he somehow got, there was absolutely nothing special about his recruiting whatsoever. Hiring a guy that Dooley put a spanking on was brilliant. I knew from day one that he was gonna suck All u had to do was listen to his opening presser and know he was gonna bomb. If u had any second guesses about his ability, all u had to do was watch his coaching strategy a few years back when he had first and goal at home vs Oklahoma to know we would be sinking fast and sink we did.
