Butch Jones should have been given another year to turn things around. Change my mind.

And Fulmer got fired..
I’m guessing his counter point is many think Fulmer should have been given more time to right the ship. Why not Butch? There are too many reasons for Butch not getting more time.

Underperformed the talent he had in every season.

Did not do good evaluations of recruits contributing to too much early attrition and injuries.

Outclassed repeatedly by other SEC coaches on gameday.

Used car salesman routine only works until recruits find out you are selling lemons... recruits had already stopped believing him.

Could not develop players.

Techniques he taught to OL's were questioned by former Vol OL's early on.

Repeatedly mismanaged players- especially Hurd.

Frequent blowouts. Frequent losses to inferior teams.

How much do you want?

The comparison with Fulmer... well, Fulmer did get fired for that record. Unlike Jones, he had actually once been good at the highest levels of college football

He had a few fairly decent recruiting classes (by ratings only) and he had two fairly decent seasons with bowl wins. However, in his best two seasons his atrocious game time decisions cost us several games per year that we should have easily won. Had won those games he ‘gave away’ due to incompetence and if we had won the east both years, I could maybe see him getting one more year. With that said, I have no doubts at all that it was time for him to go, probably even sooner in 2017. Much as I love Fulmer, after his last 4 seasons it was time for him to go as well. Although Butch shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same sentence as Fulmer. Fulmer’s skillset and body of work far exceeds Butch’s.

I don’t understand the need to convince you. Just ask yourself a couple simple questions. How long was Butcher here? How long does it take a kid to get through college? If your answer to those 2 questions was 4yrs then what we had here was either an inability to evaluate talent or an inability to develop. My guess is both.

Still need your mind changed?

If your mind needs to be convinced to change on this subject...for the love of all that is good in the world. Stop thinking now.

As evidenced by what, exactly?

When your ex GF goes and becomes a stripper after you break up, the argument you should have given her another chance falls kind of flat.

Disagree. Though Dooley should have been given 2 more years for sure. I think we should bring him back in some capacity, he's a great ambassador for the Tennessee brand.

This is pure insanity. The talent, the culture, the physicality of our players, the attitude within the Anderson Training Facility and all throughout the program was complete crap after year 4, and year 5’s 4-8 season under Jones exposed all that.

As it turned out, the 247 expose that got many anonymous quotes from within the building telling us that Jones was an insecure little tyrant who was well in over his head while sprinting away from even semi-reasonable expectations for a once great football program was spot on the money, despite all the protestations from guys like you in the fan base.

Not only no, but hell no to your premise here. If anything, Jones never should’ve gotten the 5th year.

And here's the thread after the expose came. Interesting....

Vols trending Down (247 article)

Tennessee should have threatened to expose all his dirt unless he took at much lower buyout. Then require him to sign a confidentiality agreement if he spread dirt on Tennessee. Few schools today pay full buyouts, but Tennessee does. Why I don’t know.
