Butch Jones: play calling no problem

Well said. The ONLY knock I have on this game was the decision to snap the ball as quickly as we did towards the end. We could have eaten ~3 min off the clock in the 4th.
I am not one to preserve a lead, but if you're going to move to a more conservative series, the snaps have to go slower.

We have no control over the poor calls. Well... except for the player who uses bad technique when defending a receiver who is not going to make the TD and still runs into him. That didn't need to happen. But hey its football. We play again this week.

I didn't see the need for the hurry up offense either, they should have been trying to take as much time off the clock as they could

This is hard. What do you expect him to call when their D line is in the backfield every play and our QB is bouncing the ball to receivers? We called screens and they were covered too. They loaded the box and we could not complete a pass. Yes, they were too conservative, but they were preventing a pick 6 since we couldn't throw it. Dobbs didn't give him much to work with.

No need to be scared. Football games have nothing to do with monsters under your bed. I think that's soccer or something.

Fear does not exist. It is something we create in our own minds. However, my Dad once told me as he tucked me into bed, Don't worry son. You won't be alone in here after the lights go out and the door is closed. The BOOGER MAN will be here with you".

With Butch we almost beat Oklahoma.

So what? With Dooley didn't we almost beat LSU, UGA, and SCjr when they were all higher ranked than Oklahoma? If I remember correctly some or all of them were even in top 10 when Dooley almost beat them?

If he means it then he is delusional and will 100 percent fail at UT

OR

He is trying not to throw his OC under the bus in front of the media

I think he needs to throw something under the bus. That second half Game Plan; and whoever thought it up! AND----it can be rolling a little------------

Yeah, nothing works against that defense. Sheez.

could be. Probably same ones that defended dooley

Surely anyone on earth can see the difference. UT will have to pony up and Butch will have to agree hire great coordinators to get to the top though. Right now I will be happy with "in the hunt". Sorry for the Fulmerism.

Entre vous negavols. Now. Let's get on with the season and get over taking pot shots at what you can't understand. Life's too short to stop believing, so let's drain the swamp and keep smilin'.

I agree. I, too, was critical afterwards more than at the moment for not going for 7 pts on the first possession and I knew the coach would be second-guessed if we didn't win. Had we won it would not have been an issue. I understand that. I'm at least glad that Butch was answering the criticism of the play-calling. I disagree that the play-calling could certainly have been better in the second-half but at least I'm glad he addressed it. Although a tough loss, we still can win the East and beyond.

This is the same guy who said people didn't understand the read option when questioned as to why Worley handed the ball off for no gain 547337 consecutive times without ever keeping the ball.

Bad offensive strategy in the 2nd half led to a tired defense that could not tackle and made mental errors.

The loss is 100% on the offense not moving the ball and controlling the clock

When you have a lead like we did, our offense needs to slow down and burn clock to rest the D. It's ignorant to run an uptempo offense when you're not moving the chains

That's all on Butch

Offense has prolly never slowed down tempo in practice, either time to the snap or the type of play. The next time we lose a game because of it, I'll have a few choice words to say. There is no excuse for that level of incompetence, and I will be angry to see it. Sooner or later, players give up on a coach like that.

The play calling is fine. We dropped passes, committed penalties, missed blocks, missed tackles and so forth.

With Butch we almost beat Oklahoma.

With Dooley we barely beat Troy.

Ill take an average O and good D over a good O and no D all day long.

With Butch we choked vs. Florida.
With Butch we choked vs. Oklahoma.

Thats what butch does. Folds...

I will admit when we played OU last season and lost, we were overmatched in certain areas, and hardly any experince on the O line. I remember getting on Volnation last year after the game, and almost all the members on here were content with the loss because most everyone knew we were out gunned. But what made this game so upsetting is for once in a very long time, we were the better team and it showed. Ill be the first to admit when we jumped on them and took the lead, I remember thinking were finally going to win one of these huge games for once. The only thing I didnt agree with early in the game, is when Butch settled for 3 inside the goal line. I thought maybe he kicked it just to make sure we got something out of the drive. Then half way through the 2nd qtr you could really tell the play calling had changed, and when we didnt take advantage of time on the clock before the half, thats when I started getting that bad feeling like I had in the Gator game. It was really hard to watch us end up losing the game because of Butch and his staff started coaching not to lose instead of coaching to win. Hopefully Butch doesnt make that mistake in the future. GO VOLS!

The correct comparison is no O and good D vs good O and no D. Because if you think that was average O that we saw vs OU than this season is going to be more painful than even worst pessimists are predicting.

No offense? So UT has a bad offense? Come on man, OU has a solid D.

Last year was no O lol

I'm just as mad that they blew the game.

I'm also mad that it feels like the season is over. This is a solid team that.let one get away because they're inexperienced in that area. I'm not ready to pack it in. The East is still there for the taking.

I agree that the East is there for the taking and nobody should pack it in because of all the talent we have. However this can only happen with better game planning/calling (much less conservative), plus adjustments need to be made during the games based on what opponents do. Unfortunately it's hard to be overly optimistic when Butch has so far not demonstrated he is capable of either against any quality opponent.

This, all day long.

Thank you. Been saying this all week. Things didnt go our way. It happens, especially in sports.

We had our chances, and we lost. Team 117 (or 115/116) would have lost this game by 40. At least.

We look a lot better. Butch is making improvements. I dont know why the expectations go up so high in year 3. We still have the opportunity to do some good stuff. 2nd in the SEC East would be a God send compared to where we were when Butch got here just a few short years ago.

I am not sure if he is being honest or stubborn. But either way I'm scared. Brick by brick is slowly becoming loss by loss. Dooley had more wins at this point in his career than Butch.

Tired of the "young" excuses, etc.

we are all tired of the excuses, even though they still are true at this point.

The loss must be all the players fault except for a couple of plays! Players failed to execute. Not credible! Shame.

Thats the new buzz word. Execution. If things don't work, it's always about execution. Just hope that's the case because if it's not...well....that old saying about the definition of insanity comes to mind. Guess we will find out in due time.

I have been pissed like everyone else. However, in OU's last drive in regulation, if we don't get a pass interference call on a pass almost thrown into the stands or the refs call the false start, we win the game and everyone praises Butch.

We are a better team than the last few years. Our offense is one dimensional and we have no vertical pass game to speak of, but we are better than last year. As long as we keep improving, I'm ok.

fyp :)

CBJ must think that the UT fan base is really, really stupid.
