Butch Jones: play calling no problem

Reality

The coaches put us in position to win the game and the kids didn't execute.
A TD drop by Ellis
A quick out to Pig in the dirt
The penalties that extended drives
Missed FG
Fumble to take us out of FG range after a int.
do falling down to allow easy score in OT
....and the list could go on......

^^^don't mistake that as support for the coaches. I think they called a crap 2nd half and played scared/not to lose instead of going for the win.
There's plenty of blame to go around

Very reasonable.

No ever seems to criticize defensive playcalling nearly as much as offense. Is it because defensive coordinators are always better playcallers?

Or because Madden has made everyone with two hands an offensive mastermind?

With Butch we choked vs. Florida.
With Butch we choked vs. Oklahoma.

Thats what butch does. Folds...

Folded big time against #11 USCe. Also folded down 14 with four minutes left at Columbia. That bowl rout of Iowa was major fold.

Slice you're absolutely correct without a doubt.. They crapped all over themselves when OU got the momentum..

QB may take the prom queen home, but.....

SEC (football in general) games are WON in the trenches, and that is a fact jack.

Also, have to throw in the tipped/dropped ball to Malone after TK's first pick, and the pass to Malone in the seam where Malone didn't even look back for the ball. Those are also 2 potential scores. Play calling is not my issue, execution and adjustments to the blitz are.

Right now, Butch is nothing more than Ron Zook. He needs to coach like he is the big dog. Offensive game plans have been average at best. Zero counter for the blitz.

if we don't get a pass interference call on a pass almost thrown into the stands or the refs call the false start, we win the game and everyone praises Butch.

That's exactly right - Butch would have gotten all the credit in the world because unfortunately most fans only see W's or L's and could care less about anything else. But if we want to be honest Butch deserves the criticism for the way he called that game regardless of the final outcome - even just for that one drive when he would not give ball to Hurd on 1/2 yard line to punch it in in front of 102k playing at home. What kind of message was that to Hurd and his o-line (which we all know needs all the confidence it can get after all the abuse it took last year)?

You have to understand his coaching style. When he has a lead he goes super conservative. When he is trailing then he calls an aggressive game. Iowa was the exception which gave so many of us hope for 2015. Butch got a lead and kept his foot on the gas, called trick plays, deep passes, etc.

Found the UT fan who jumped on the bandwagon after 2012

The loss must be all the players fault except for a couple of plays! Players failed to execute. Not credible! Shame.

It's not credible? Did you even watch the second half? The offensive line did not block anyone in several key situations and I highly doubt the scheme for those plays was "let everyone through without blocking them". What scheme was called when Forman or whoever prison raped the wide receiver in the back of the end zone for no reason whatsoever? What scheme was called when the d-lineman and linebackers missed 687 tackles especially on the qb who wasn't even that mobile? Most of the time, it is execution and not play calling.

I think most people get this by now but the problem is people are also starting to realize that if he keeps this up he will not make it in the SEC. And it will be a shame if he does not make it given he does so many other things well (especially recruiting).

zero trick plays as of yet... Heck, I keep waiting for Dobbs to pass it out to Jennings and let him fling it.... easy TD

Bad offensive strategy in the 2nd half led to a tired defense that could not tackle and made mental errors.

The loss is 100% on the offense not moving the ball and controlling the clock

When you have a lead like we did, our offense needs to slow down and burn clock to rest the D. It's ignorant to run an uptempo offense when you're not moving the chains

That's all on Butch

Butch makes $3,000.000.00 yr playing calling mistakes are costly Mr. Jones........that's a lot of money for OJT
