I have been pissed like everyone else. However, in OU's last drive in regulation, if we don't get a pass interference call on a pass almost thrown into the stands or the refs call the false start, we win the game and everyone praises Butch.

We are a better team than the last few years. Our offense is stale, but we are better than last year. As long as we keep improving, I'm ok.

I am not sure if he is being honest or stubborn. But either way I'm scared. Brick by brick is slowly becoming loss by loss. Dooley had more wins at this point in his career than Butch.

Tired of the "young" excuses, etc.

No need to be scared. Football games have nothing to do with monsters under your bed. I think that's soccer or something.

If he means it then he is delusional and will 100 percent fail at UT

OR

He is trying not to throw his OC under the bus in front of the media

There's the second time I've seen the word scared. Really? I'm scared of cancer, or terrorism. Not the outcome of a football game.

Bad offensive strategy in the 2nd half led to a tired defense that could not tackle and made mental errors.

The loss is 100% on the offense not moving the ball and controlling the clock

When you have a lead like we did, our offense needs to slow down and burn clock to rest the D. It's ignorant to run an uptempo offense when you're not moving the chains

That's all on Butch

Thank you. Been saying this all week. Things didnt go our way. It happens, especially in sports.

We had our chances, and we lost. Team 117 (or 115/116) would have lost this game by 40. At least.

We look a lot better. Butch is making improvements. I dont know why the expectations go up so high in year 3. We still have the opportunity to do some good stuff. 2nd in the SEC East would be a God send compared to where we were when Butch got here just a few short years ago.

Yep. I knew we were in trouble when the game went into OT. The Tennessee defense was on the field far too long in the second half.

If you don't think this team and staff couldn't beat any Dooley team, you have zero clue about football. The comparison between Dooley's record and Butch's are asinine to this point.

Butch has made huge leaps and bounds with Tennessee. So many people around here seem to be so uninformed about what an improving football team looks like.

With Butch we almost beat Oklahoma.

With Dooley we barely beat Troy.

Ill take an average O and good D over a good O and no D all day long.

The loss must be all the players fault except for a couple of plays! Players failed to execute. Not credible! Shame.

Honestly, from the title and your post, you would never have known about this quote.
“We have to do a better job from a play-calling standpoint"

Most of these posts about how great Butch Jones will be as a head coach for UT is a carbon copy of what was said about Kiffin and Dooley. :snoring:

I am not so sure the offense knows all the plays. In the second half the backfield looked confused and completely out of sync at times. Running the same 3 plays in various incarnations against a top team is never a good idea unless you have superior athletes at every position, and know the plays. We don't.

You tell me how the coaching was for the game:

1) On offense, we took our foot off the gas once we had a lead and played not to lose

2) When OU made the halftime adjustment to bring more outside blitzes in the second half, we seemed to not even attempt to counter that by leaving an extra blocker in there. So Dobbs & the RBs were under non-stop pressure.

3) As Count mentioned above, we continued to run a hurry up offense in the second half when we had the lead and were needing to burn clock. This one dumbfounds me. We had one drive in the second half that took something like 10 seconds off the clock.

4) We ran Kamara, instead of the 240-lb Hurd, on 3rd & goal from the 1. Then, we kicked on 4th & goal from the 1. Do you know any championship coaches that kick right there?

So judge the coaches for yourself. I just feel bad for the players, especially the defense. The D played their hearts out, but due to the offensive coaching, it was no surprise that they tired out in the end. I hope Butch is smart enough to learn from mistakes and improve upon them, because this game eerily reminded me of Florida from last year.

Our offense is so limited in scope, its hard to blame play calling for our failures, since there are so few plays you can call. Just like Fulmerball.

The correct comparison is no O and good D vs good O and no D. Because if you think that was average O that we saw vs OU than this season is going to be more painful than even worst pessimists are predicting.

The expectation of this game went up when it was 17-0. Hey we can beat these guys.....but butch snatched defeat from jaws of victory

Well said. The ONLY knock I have on this game was the decision to snap the ball as quickly as we did towards the end. We could have eaten ~3 min off the clock in the 4th.
I am not one to preserve a lead, but if you're going to move to a more conservative series, the snaps have to go slower.

We have no control over the poor calls. Well... except for the player who uses bad technique when defending a receiver who is not going to make the TD and still runs into him. That didn't need to happen. But hey its football. We play again this week.
