butch has got to run Hurd up the middle

I actually think Kamara is the one who need more inside carries. He is smaller(still not small, Hurd is just huge) and if he slips through the line and gets to the second level he actually has the speed to house long TD runs.

I hope they still have the Tennessee Trap play in the repertoire. When we had the hosses back in the day, Cutcliffe would fart around, fart around and then BOOM the Red Sea parts and Shawn Bryson takes off for 30 or 40 yards. Maybe Kamara could do the same.

It is hard to argue with the effectiveness of our running attack, which is based on misdirection and power. Taking away the reads and misdirection when they are already working is unwise.

Hurd and Kamara both can and do run all the plays. If you try to limit which one runs certain plays, then you are telling the defense what we are going to run.

I think the scheme is fine, and I think opponents will have to play much more honestly this year than last! Croom and Wolfe down the center of the field will absolutely make those safeties play honestly, and those 5 and 8 yard runs from last year are going to be 15 to 18 yard runs and some of them are going to the house!! Guarantee we have two of them in the first two games!

how am i complaining, it's true. it's not a complaint. some people feel the need to make smart a** comments.

All we hear all year is WHY DO WE RUN IT UP THE MIDDLE EVERY PLAY. This is a first, hearing someone wanting us to do it more often!

And some people always find something to constantly b***h about. If I remember correctly, we had our best rushing attack in YEARS, and the OP wants to run HB dive every time a rush play is called

Well I'm sure that comes with the QB being under center, which snippets of what we saw in the last bowl game.

Both can (and will) run out of both...no limitations with this effective mix. And some of the "misdirections" were in the backfield. A lot of Hurd's most impressive rushes were minimal gainers after fighting off gangbuster rushes. Teams like Bama are susceptible to up tempo spread teams...but not after they eventually key in. Mixing in will add to that advantage.

Where did he say "every"?

It is one thing to shout all your coaching wisdom at your TV screen in the privacy of your own home on Saturday.

It is quite another to write it up and post it in a forum that thousands of others see at their leisure.

Don't let the lack of disagreement in your living room fool you into believing you've got it down. That can lead to the latter (posting here), which can be embarrassing when it becomes obvious you don't know nearly as much about the game as you thought.

Many variables go into Hurd's running path on each down. There's not only the called play, but also Dobb's call on the option (if that's part of the play), and the OLine's blocking success (or failure), and Hurd's vision, and the timing of the handoff, and what's happening at the edges, and on and on.

To isolate just on the play call (which is almost always DeBord, anyway, not Butch) is to way over-simplify matters.

Better to stick to just yelling at your TV screen. It doesn't talk back. :)

Perhaps you should call Butch and tell him all about your new scheme. Here is his direct # 800-GET-REAL.

It's not a new "scheme". It's a formation...and we ran it in the bowl game...so it's not?...new?

Let me get this straight. Our 5* RB ran behind a mid-major quality OL in 14', and avg / below avg SEC quality OL in 15'. The same scheme is being used and our RB is right now knocking on the door of becoming the leading rusher in the entire HISTORY of our storied program.

And we are complaining about the coaches utilizing our RB improperly.

... I'm going back to work. :mf_surrender:

What about lining up in a Power-I, fake to Hurd and dinking it over the middle to a TE? Next play - same formation - motion to the TE and then hand it off to Hurd behind a FB.

I see your point and I too like mis-direction, different plays out of the same set, etc. I think your point is to fully utilize all of your talents. CBJ has a basket full of talent this year, we'll see what he can do with it all.

i'm not saying that, i'm saying that Hurd doesn't get around the corner as quickly because he's tall.

Up the middle? Some games yes, some games no. Depends on opponent and your strengths and weaknesses. They are all fluid as well. With that said, there wasn't a game we lost because we didn't run as much up the middle. Our RBs have a terrific combo of speed and strength to run wherever, whenever...period! CMG!!!

how many more yards would Hurd have gotten if Butch ran him more between the tackle.

Butch is doing those linebackers a service by not having Hurd run north and sout.

How do I unlike something? I was trying to hit quote and hit the like button :banghead2:

Anyway - if I am not mistaken the play from the 1 yard line in the Georgia game was a hand off to Hurd where he was to run between the tackle. We all saw how well that one turned out.

Personally, I feel we should all let the coaches coach. That is what they get paid for.
