I brought it up as proof that it doesn't take six years to build a program. And anyone who thinks Butch's first three years here have been more impressive than Harbaugh's first three at Stanford is uninformed or stupid.dude YOU brought up harbaugh being able to turn michigan around quicker, implying that he is instant success. i was merely providing factual, numerical evidence that he wasn't any more successful in his first 3 years than butch. don't be insulted by the comparison you created

What do you mean he's done nothing????
We've been competitive in every game we've played this year!!!
We're bowl eligible faster than we've been in many years!!!
We have a chance at our best W/L record in almost a decade!!!
IF we finish 8-4 he should get a minimal bump and 1 yr extention to show recruits the AD has faith in him.
He is improving week too week year to year he has done a remarkable job at recruiting we should be 8-4 @ a bowl win having us at 9 butch will have schools drooling over his recruiting and teams improvements. We need to lock him down let his plan work out I think were not to far away
How in demand is a guy that's improved by four wins in three years? Name one job that would actually be better than this one that's going to consider him?
Jim Harbaugh made $1.25M annually for taking Stanford from a 1-11 team to #4 in the country.
CBJ will make $3.7M minimum this year for taking UT from 5-7 to 8-4 (assuming a win-out), unranked to unranked. By any standard, in any conference, CBJ is well-compensated commensurate to performance. Let it ride and see what he can do next year.
I get the sentiment but don't understand why there is a thread on this topic. Are there rumors of a pay increase or extensions
According to Football Scoop, there are rumors of an extension. I have no idea how reliable of a source Football Scoop is...

Have heard that if they win 8, as administration expects, they would like to extend Butch again.

Its not just the 4 wins in 3 years, its the state of the program overall. Remember, Dools team quit on him...flat out quit. Recruiting was bottoming out and there was a legitimate sense that UT was snake bitten and unable or unwilling to turn it around. We are now, in 3 years, hoping for 9 wins and a third consecutive top notch recruiting class. There is optimism surrounding the program, expectations are rising (which is good), and Vols fans are arguing over whether or not 8 or 9 wins should merit a raise or an extension for its architect. As for who might want that? Well that's a good question...I certainly think there are teams out there that would.
Look, Im not saying we should build Jones a statue outside of the stadium or rename a street, I am just saying that a nine win season would indicate that we have a far better program than the one he took over, and that would merit - in my opinion - rewarding.:good!:
That's not really a fair comparison. You do realize that in 2007, when Harbaugh was hired, there were only 5 coaches in all of college football Meyer, Miles, Saban, Stoops and Ferentz that made over $3 million per year? Only about a dozen were making $2 million or more at that time. The market has changed quite a bit since then. Hell, this year alone there are 16 coaches make more than $4 million annually.
Expectations were rising with Dooley. You're wrong, it is just wins. Only four extra wins in three years. Name a better opportunity that will seek him
If its just the wins, then ok. How many? 10? How many would it take for you to think he deserved the raise? The better the pay, the better the opportunity. If he wins 9 games, there COULD be several teams that would pay what we do and they would love to win 9 games! Look around at the teams that are already available. Miami, Auburn possibly, LSU possibly, USC (east and west), Mizzou, etc. We aren't even to the "coaching carousel" period yet. You really don't think ANYONE will look for a proven recruiter who has demonstrated he can win 9 games in the SEC and make progress each year? That's what they are all looking for. Ill throw in Texas. Can you imagine Butch recruiting in that position? He would routinely lock up top 3 classes and eventually win a title with it. I think if he wins 9 games he deserves a raise...you don't. No problem.
