I could see using the RS if he wasn't the clear #1. I'm not convinced, though, that he was ever seen as the #1.
Who knows though? Maybe the thinking was that Worley could get to 6 wins so no need to use Dobbs ... but I can't imagine not playing the best guy during a rebuild.
I'll say it again....they viewed Worley as the clear #1, the best option to get the team to 6 wins and a bowl. Since Dobbs wasn't the clear #1, they decided to use his redshirt and develop him for next year and beyond. Once Worley was out, the luxury to preserve Dobbs for the year was gone as they knew they needed him to play if they were gonna reach the team goal, which is get to a bowl game, something they knew would not happen with Peterman at qb ..... all this played out and became crystal clear with how they played the 2 qbs in the Bama and SCar games.
