With Google, no one should be "in the dark" about any of these coaches. I get sick of all the negativity on her from people that don't even take the time to do any research. Even though Green may not have a "glamorous" name in the coaching ranks, apparently the guy is a seasoned DC and has been very successful in his tenure at Navy: THis from the Washington Post Sports Page :
Green has been the Midshipmens defensive coordinator for 10 seasons, during which he twice was nominated for the Frank Broyles Award presented to the countrys top assistant coach of the year.
Well congrats to him and if he is hired I hope he succeeds in the biggest way,but what the hell have we become to come to this level.CDD does not have the comfort of taking a chance like this.If he is the guy and it turns out good,I will be the first to say I was wrong, but can't u see the apprehension in most fans?
Absolutely, however, with the tenuous situation our head coach is in, I don't forsee any "big name" coach coming to Tenn. Based on what I read on The Washington Post, Navy fans are pretty upset at the thought of losing Green. Sounds like he is a great recruiter and well respected by the players.
I guess I'm just one of those delusional fans that everyone likes to make fun of around here but I just can't get my mind around the fact that no-one... NO-ONE wants to come to UT and coach any more. If anyone of any merit is mentioned as a candidate it is either a situation where they are only feigning interest in UT in order to leverage a raise at the school they're currently at or they come here for a year or two and scoot on out at the first available opportunity...
It's what we have created with all the negativity after the loss to KY. People need to step back and recall that when Dooley was hired, everyone said it would take at least 3-4 years to see any type of success because of the shape Kiffin/Fulmer left our program in. We just finished year 2.
I don't think it's message board posters that are to blame here... If that's all it took to destroy a program Bama never would have recovered from their downturn in the 90's and South Carolina would still be an also-ran... Negative internet chatter on fansites is a fact of life for almost every program not named Alabama right now...I realize that Fulmer may have stacked the tires and Kiffin tossed gas and a match on 'em but Dooley hasn't really done a whole lot to put out that fire other than keep players out of jail.... Yeah we've had OK recruiting but we're a lot further away than 3-4 years at the rate we're going.... more like 7-10....
Austin Ward says Buddy Green is next to interview on Thursday. In other words we won't know who the DC is until late Thursday or Friday at the earliest.
"@coachingsearch: I am told Derek Dooley has interviewed Navy defensive coordinator Buddy Green."
May not be a bad option. The guy who takes on the Navy job has to immediately confront the fact he's operating with less talent and size up front than anyone outside the other service academies. That coach confronts adversity and issues of depth and ability every season.
You can't have a dominant defense at Navy. Your job there as a coordinator is to do just enough to put them in a position to win football games.
Sometimes it is better to go with the man willing to do a thankless job than it is to go with the guy who has had the table set for him. Wouldn't mind seeing what Green could do with more size, speed, and talent available to him than he's ever had at Navy.
