Buddy Green

I don't think Tennessee can just make an "ok" hire. Especially after Florida brought in Pease and Alabama bringing in coaches like Brian Shottenheimer to interview for their OC job.

green or me or whoever? can we please go back to the days when we all argued over black uniforms..or something!!!

not knowing is the worst! lol

You do. Somebody needs to tell the UTAD to want that as well.

I didn't mean that they were going to be mediocre. I meant simply that we will have football team next year and they will make great hires.

What a shot in the foot. Rejection from SS and hire LT. Should have just hired LT yesterday morning.

If Sunseri doesn't take the job, it's time to promote Lance.

I have been so against that but even I have to admit I am starting to think about that. I would suggest Green/LT as Co dc. I have no confidence in Lance as a DC alone.

Apparently Dooley doesn't either. If CSS goes back south, I suspect our press release will say,"We interviewed some of the greatest defensive coaches across the nation, and we came to the conclusion that we had someone in house that could do the job as good or better than any of them. I'm proud to call CLT our new DC."

Can you imagine how LT & CDD would be crucified if he was moved up to DC? He would be a loser who couldn't get another job. CDD would be a bum who can't find the top DC in the country, etc...

So all of a sudden UT is as desirable a job as Fla and Alabama?

Must be a really nice rock for you to stay under there so long!

After reading some of the posts for the last month Tennessee was ready for an SEC title in the next year or two. Tennessee was on its way to the promise land.

Green bud is good...Buddy Green, not that great. At least the OP has some optimism, something I can't muster right now.

There is no person alive that if hired for DC will instantly transform Tennessee into "best". There is no hire that is universally know to be "best". There are thousands of coaches out there. We need one that can coach defense decently and recruit and get along with the other staff - if success is to come it will be through their hard work. Even if Shannon got the job over time we might have learned that his success (on the field and recruiting) was from elite South Florida talent that we won't be able to get and not as much his ability to coach defense.

Chuck Oliver, who is a radio guy in ATL, tweeted this 40 minutes ago. SIAP.

Bama keeps Sunseri? Dooley/Vols could announce as soon as tomorrow that Buddy Green from Navy is the hire for DC. Tracking details on this

please merge if necessary. I didn't see it poseted elsewhere, but SIAP.

I'll give him a chance. Experienced DC. Decent results with less than stellar talent. Had a rough year last year but improved towards the end. Fans seem to think he's an asset. May be better than inexperienced higher profile coach.

Sounds eerily similar to the rationale we used after the CDD hire. I'm a Dooley fan and hope he succeeds but we're beginning year three of the CDD experiment and we do not have an additional three years for the Buddy Green experiment. I don't think this in any way an upgrade over Wilcox which is what we must have to continue to progress.
