Hardesty won't go down without a fight.

I sure hope not. Give the freshman hell. Make him work his ass off. Handing the job to BB on a platter is the worst thing Kiff and gang could do, and I'm sure they won't do that. Whoever earns the job will be better for it if they had to compete to get it. And the team will be better for it.

Because I think that when the dust settles it'll be BB's gig, doesn't mean I think he is above having to earn it.

Then he doesn't deserve to play. Period. I have no personal stake in Bryce Brown. I won't be any better looking or richer if he plays or doesn't play.

I just think that he *will* beat him out. I think he is more athletically gifted and natural to the position, and I think this will become obvious to all after a couple games.
Have I been wrong before? Absolutely. This is just how I see things playing out.

And you know this by watching grainy footage from Rivals.com.

Quick question, if BB doesn't see the field much his freshman year, will you be on here bashing the kid for not living up to Rivals' prediction?

Grainy or not, the footage shows a special running back.

The only time kids deserve bashing for not living up to their rival's prediction is in the Demetrice Morley-type situation where a kid obviously has the physical tools and has a basically unlimited ceiling...and then just pisses it away.

If Bryce gets on campus and it turns out that the films were misleading and he just isn't as he good as he is supposed to be, by no means would I bash him.

If he gets on campus, busts out ridiculous 200 yard rushing games and then gets kicked out of school after multiple off the field issues, then, yes, I would bash him.

IMO -

MH will be the opening day starter. I don't think any of our backs will be the guy. It will probably be running back by committee. We have 5 good backs, or at least potentially good backs (Hardesty, Poole, Williams, Brown, and Oku). Of the 5, I would expect to see a 3 back rotation. Williams may see some time at full back once Brown and Oku get here. 4 of the 5 could see plenty of PT. My guess is Poole will be the one that gets left out.

I'm curious how this is going to go. If Fulmer were still here and BB wasn't named the starter by the 2nd day of fall practice there would already be some blaming CPF for "not playing his young talent yada yada".

If BB isn't getting significant PT how much credit do you think people will give this staff for knowing what they're doing?

As does the footage of David Oku. Vision my friend. The kid has great vision.

I honestly see 5 RB's getting touches most every game, unless Oku gets a red shirt.

They will get tremendous heat if the guys playing in front of him aren't producing.

I think all of our backs get quite a few carries each this year. BB will make an impact his freshman year, granted the Heisman talks are a little far-fetched, but he will definitely make his presence felt. It sure does seem that they are a special group of RBs and I can't wait to see them in action!

If we actually could somehow manage to find a way to, you know, block for these RB's it would be amazing to see 3-4 guys pounding the rock every game and sustain long drives. The defense would be exhausted, and if they could just pinpoint a small handful of plays in the playbook that would get a man wide open after all that, the PA would at LEAST give Crompton a fighting chance to throw it at the UT receiver.

I just listened to Bryce on the VSPN show. He is working hard and got his weight up and strength up some.

He will be on campus for good on May 5th. And he is hoping to wear #11.

I have nothing against Hardesty but he will be the 3rd or 4th most talented back on our team this year.

Fulmer screwed up and made him a RB when he should have been a LB/SS. A lot of people forget that he came to TN as an "athlete" not as a RB. He was projected by Rivals to be an all-american safety coming out of high school.

I admire Hardesty for fighting back after his injuries, but it's ridiculous to think that he's the future of TN football. Williams, Poole, Brown, and Oku are probably going to be pushing for playing time with Hardesty finding it harder and harder to fit in.

How is a senior TB starting his senior year considered "the future"?

Hard to be the "future" of any program as a Senior. Noone is saying that.....but he very well may be the "present" until our younger backs get adjusted to big time SEC level football.

Not jumping you,but what has he done to prove he is a SEC running back? I agree with the previous post about Poole,Williams and Brown will see more Time. Brown out of High School has more talent than any of our backs!IMO

He has played on a D1A team for 4 years now. MH is definitely not an "elite" RB, but he has done enough in his career, IMO, to prove he was worth the scholarship. As for this year, I can only go off of what the coaches are saying, cause I dont see him play every day like they do. They seem to think he is doing great, so that works for me.

I agree with this. But I think dude meant that BB needed to actually learn the intricacies of the zone blocking scheme, which simply isn't true.

What he'll need to learn is his blitz pickups so he doesn't get Crompton killed. We all know how terrible Crompton is anyway. He definitely doesn't need a running back missing easy blitz pickups.

That being said, while he may not be the day 1 starter, I think that Bryce Brown will be our leading rusher this year.

we might actually win a few more games if he does get killed.

Hardesty's health is substantially irrelevant. It will become abundantly clear after about 10 carries that BB is on a different level than a perfectly fit and healthy Hardesty.

I can't wait to see BB in action. UT hasn't had a back in this mold since...welll...I'm too young to remember Chuck Webb, so I don't know. We've had some great power backs in Lewis and Henry, but I can't recall a UT back that could make multiple defenders miss like BB will do.

And, for the record, I have no ill will towards Hardesty whatsoever. He seems like a good guy all around.

+1
