In all fairness, the hand-clocked highschool numbers are always artificially low. Not saying BB isn't fast, but a legit 4.32 is flying. He's not that fast.

I think the claimed time was 4.28 from his "mentor's" site and scouts confirmed the 4.32.

Didn't Florida brag that they had 5 or so guys that could run a 4.3? The fastest of them all, Percy, ran a 4.41 at the combine. Just sayin'.

No one has ever said Harvin was the fastest of the Florida guys. Demps would be.

No, no. I'm not disputing the fact that a 4.32 showed up on the stopwatch. I'm just saying that the hand-timed results are always a little fast due to the reaction time of the timer.

Can we agree that he is not slow and would be one of the faster backs in the country even if those are hand-timed? I like all of our backs but I think Brown will be great.

Chris Johnson has the fastest time in the history of the NFL combine, what was it?

The problem with essentially any 40 time given for a high school player is that there is almost always a vested interest in having the times low. Asking a coach what his star player runs in the 40 is like asking a mother if she thinks her son is handsome.

The above mentioned Harvin is a great example. He was, to listen to the FL guys, a low 4.3 or even upper 4.2 guy. Then he gets to the combine, where you're basically a piece of meat they're measuring for sale and the 40 time goes a long way to determining selling price, and he runs a 4.4. Most guys that are supposed to be REALLY fast also ran track. Researching those times can go a long way to figuring out how fast somebody really is. If somebody is supposed to run a 4.2 but their best 100m time is a 10.8...be very dubious.

Don't bring news articles and documented evidence of his 40 time into the argument. We are supposed to be arguing based on our perception of how fast he is, not a stop watch's perception of how fast he is.

I just hadn't seen that before. Hand timed 40's are notoriously low and I'd rather have a laser timed one... but you can't "cheat" enough to make a 4.6 guy be 4.32.

I also didn't question his straight line speed. My only question right now about the kid is can he make cuts and change direction like an elite back.

Totally agree. I'm as big of a BB fan as anyone.

My hope is he will be really good in the zone blocking scheme. He seems to be a downhill runner and needs to read the blocks, make one cut and go in that style running game. I think he may have been used to running around everyone in high school but there were flashes during the season of his speed especially the swing pass against Ohio.

I don't know his shuttle speeds or any of that, but it looks like he gets to his full speed in fewer steps than any other back we have. His cutting might have been better this year had he not had hip problems.

I am not knocking the level BB was able to elevate himself to during highschool to come in as the #1 recruit in the country. He definitely has talent. However, I will be honest and say that each and every back that has turned out to be memorable in UT history has by far and away exhibited something when they have the ball, FROM THE START. It is elusiveness, power, cutting ability, vision, or raw speed that makes you say, "Give him the ball again." Then as they learn, they only get better. BB has not shown ME that "something special" in any way to date. IMO, both Poole and Williams have. Arian Foster was very productive as a back but is he remembered along with J. Lewis, Cobb, Webb, Cheese? NO.

Give me a break. Bryce didn't start as a freshman and lots of posters are pretty much ready to write him off because of it. Poole and Williams have not shown more than Brown. They simply haven't. Williams has never even carried the ball.

I've told everyone on here several times not to forget about Toney Williams. However, I don't see his knee being 100% by spring.

Poole can be a really good back in this system. Brown can be a great back in this system.

I like Brown to get the bulk of the carries, BUT it will all depend on the o-line improving from here on out! We couldn't ask for a more talented backfield!

I know people keep wanting to dismiss him... but Poole's few carries vs VT were one of the few things I found to be pleased with. After MH couldn't get anything going, TP ran 3 times for 15 yards.... but then CLK took him out and he disappeared again. Hardesty had 39 yards on 18 carries. I really would have liked to have seen what more Poole could have done.

I will support the coaches but it almost seems like they're afraid Poole will be successful if he gets a real shot.

This is starting to annoy me with people. These coaches aren't doing anything on purpose to hurt the program! They want to win... PERIOD! They don't care who the players are!

The ONLY REASON Bryce Brown didn't start this year was because Hardesty was playing out of his skull!!! The kid stayed healthy all season for the the first time and showed how amazing of a running back he is. BB will be started next year barring any injuries! BOOK IT!
