Bryce Brown Gone

Let's all speculate why this happened and then in a couple of hours/days/weeks/seasons we'll all go back and look at these (stupid)posts and decide which 5% were correct.

Hate to break it to you, but we are not a top program any more.
We aren't one of the best teams at the moment, or even close, but our program isn't bad or anything. When Alabama was at the bottom of everything a few years ago, they were still a great program. UT will get back there.

I'm personally not sweating it to be honest. I was optimistic about BB and was excited about him getting a good shot next year, but I'm not freaking out like some. Yes BB had a 5 star rating and was highly touted, but to call him "elite" and that we are going to have a losing season just b/c he left is crazy. Did he really show you that much last year to call him elite? An elite freshman is one that can come in and somewhat be a game changer ie. Trent Richardson at Bama. BB did not show that to me. Don't get me wrong like I said I was very excited about him and thought he could've been solid for us and hopefully would've turned into that 5 star back we recruited him as, but I'm honestly not sweating it.

There is always something new for the nay-sayers to bash. I firmly believe Bryce was good as gone when LK left. I guarantee you he has been putting out feelers for a while and taking advice from those who may or may not have his best interest at heart. Am I upset he is leaving and the coaches could not sway him to stay/bleed orange? Yes!

With that said, and again I will say... the sky is not falling. Yes, there are many variables that are unproven. Only time will tell but I can tell you we have a full stable of backs and I do not believe we will suffer. I say we get rid of all the bad seeds now and those who are not fully committed. Let's clean house now and start fresh and support this new coach. It may take longer than we all would like but I think Dooley will continue with our winning traditions. We must give him time!

Again, only time will tell. Let's move on.

It has nothing to do with Dooley, if he was leaving after spring practice maybe it could have been attributed to Dooley. With this timing though it is obviously something else, obvious to anyone with a brain at least (not meaning you).

I'm not going that far.

I said awhile back in one of the BB threads that "wait and see" is sometimes code for "I'm gone unless something big changes my mind".

There's a rumor going about that BB has a pregnant GF. It could be true. It could be cover. It could be nothing but a false rumor.

It takes more than internet chatter to convince me on things like this.

sometimes players are 5 star in high school because they mature faster and the 3 stars catch up later in college...be that as it may b brown chose to leave ...best of luck

You as well, like the fact Hardesty tore his ACL his freshman year.
He was injured, but even when he was healthy he never supplanted Foster. That may be partly because Fulmer played favorites, but there's probably a little more to why he never took over.

I don't have blind faith in Dooley...

I don't have blind faith in Brown...

I don't have blind faith in Poole or Oku...

I didn't have blind faith in Kiffin when there was a thread talking about him proving himself....

I have to be convinced. I hope Dooley does well. He needs a chance before I'm willing to write him off or declare him a success.

Blindness seems to cut both ways just as sharp. Some have jumped on the bandwagon even to the point of denying the coaching talents of CLK and CMK. That's foolish. Some have written Dooley off because he doesn't run PR campaigns and for various other things that haven't proven out yet... That is just as blind and foolish.

Folks aren't writing Dooley off for not having PR campaigns.

He came with a bad track record in a bad conference and keeps stumbling on the basics.... like this.

Loses the only recruit we had from 2011, kicks Eric Berry off the field, loses the top recruit in the nation and probably the most talented player on the current team...

Just thought... JJ's the main competitor to BB for 'most talented'... somebody should tell CDD to try to keep him since he probably has no idea who he is either.

Winner, we all knew Hardesty had the talent and determination to be number one. Remember the run against Cal?

Stats don't lie.

You ar enot counting the fact that Hardesty had multpile injuries which could have been carrier ending and then produces as one of the best backs in the nation his senior year. What ifs ar eeasy but you canot compare?

Just for kicks and giggles. Please provide those stats. I would be very interested in seeing.

Well......if everyone expected Brown to carry Tenn. on his shoulders just off speculation......yep we are in trouble. We have plenty of back-up running backs that will love to fill his position, and will. Heart and character is what we need on our team. Anyone disagree?

We shouldn't be bashing Dooley yet. Top college programs lose big talent all the time.

Most TOP college programs have depth. We don't. Losing a player the caliber of Bryce Brown hurts no matter how you look at it. Also, these people who now start downplaying Bryce's abilities because he is leaving the program and praised him when he was here are ridiculous. I realize fans are always trying to be positive, and that's a good thing. BUT, here is 100% reality. This program is severely damaged and it's going to take many years to fix it. I'm not 100% sold Dooley is going to be able to fix things. I really think he is over his head coming from a small time program directly into a big time program in the SEC. I'll reserve final judgment on him as the season progresses but I urge all Vol fans to head down to Sams and buy the tribe size bottles of Tums. You will need them. :ermm:

Stats don't lie.

No? Outside of Ohio, Memphis, WKU, and one carry against USC BB rushed 65 times for 208 yards- a whopping 3.2 ypc.

OK. You got it. Stats don't lie. BB had one effective play against a credible defense all year long.

I'm not trying to run the kid down... just prove how foolish it is to talk like he was a finished product. He wasn't and he might have never developed those skills.

MOST of the #1 players showed flashes in their Fr year. Brown really didn't.

On this board, you will find someone.

Blind faith has apparently become this fan base's MO.

Sadly enough. Oh how the once-mighty have fallen. We are Tennessee and we will be back, but it's a little far-fetched to think it'll happen overnight--even for the most optimistic fan. Whether Tennessee is relevant once again will be a conversation to have in 5+ years. If we do in fact lose BB, it will not break this team. Sure, losing a talent like that hurts, but this team is still MILES from being where it once was--no matter who is on/off the team right now.

Ha! No, i'm pretty sure they know better then the posters on here claiming otherwise. Look in the context of the post next time.

I'm not claiming they don't know better than a lot of posters, but the implication is that the players opinion > coaches opinion. And no matter how much I hate Lane Kiffin, the two players that really carried the ball last year (Hardesty and Brown) did a fine job and it's very hard to argue with our previous regime's handling of the RB position.

There's no disputing the fact that at the very least we're "unproven" at the position at the moment. I think we're going to be okay honestly, but trying to chisel in the depth chart based on players left with even less PT than Brown and player opinions is just a bit off base.

Or wake from their sleep?

The guy was the best recruit in the nation just a year ago. He was Frosh who played extremely well behind a line with no talent while battling an injury and showing nothing but the most professional attitude a player could have.

We lost a great one here.

4.6 yards/att for a true freshman is more than nothing.

exactly
hope Brown is Ok, but losing him hurts

I've found Wes Rucker to be a solid source of news and opinions, and per his twitter Brown was promised some things during his recruitment and was unhappy to start behind Hardesty last year. Says he doesn't understand why people are blaming DD for this, as most likely only Kiffin could have convinced him to stay.

Perhaps BB has been seeing more competition at the starting job than he is comfortable with?
