Just out of curiousity, was Bryce not doing well in practice? I know Poole and Williams were, but I seem to recall a lot of impressive reports coming out about Brown, as well.
Hardesty. MH was pretty public when he got "forgotten" on the bench.Poole and who?
Sorry about not being clear. I didn't recognize the problem until I re-read what I'd wrote. That comment was about Hardesty, not Poole. I hope Poole is great. I hope for that matter Brown stays and becomes all his potential allows. That sounds good. You said before he showed us he was the stud you said he was. I didn't think that was right. I personally think he'll be just fine... pending the OL isn't the worst in my lifetime.
I remember quite a few saying that Poole was outshining Brown and even that Williams was outshining both except against the 3rd team.
I wrote a messed up sentence RE: Coker and Poole. My point was that Hardesty sat behind Coker. MH worked hard and kept his nose clean. Coker had recurring issues... yet MH never really got his shot even when healthy.
Absolutely. I think he is probably the most talented RB I've ever seen at UT. At the same time, few dispute that MH outworked him in practice or stayed out of trouble better. In the end... character won over talent in this case.Coker was talented, on the field, and NFL bound had he been smart enough to stay out of trouble.
I don't know what Poole will do. I know what was reported from practice. I know what I saw as far as developed skills in his scant PT. I know many thought he was underrated coming out of GA primarily because of an injury... but there are no guarantees he'll be any good at all regardless of how dominate his practice reports are.If TP is as talented as you and many others think, he'll get his shot and make the most of it just as Hardesty did.
No question at all about the confusion. I mean if the innuendo is true and he was promised a Heisman campaign by CLK... Wow, how do you handle that when the next guy who has no responsibility for the words of Kiffin tells him he'll have to earn the starting job?Brown has worked hard. Perhaps he made a mistake in the spring, but there are a lot of reasons he should have been confused by the turn of events that confronted him.
I can't see how having both BB and TP is such an issue unless one or the other doesn't want to compete. I've heard nothing to indicate that Brown has a problem with competing for the position. I've also heard nothing from TP, himself, but his supporters are certainly beginning to make it sound like they simply don't want the competition from BB.

I understand his concern with that game. However, Arian Foster was doing quite well in that game and was also forgotten. For some reason we just chose to go away from the run and it resulted in us being destroyed. That was one of Cutcliffe's worst games ever. Anyway, I think it was more a problem with us abandoning the run game than us abandoning a specific player.

I had high hopes for Poole, Brown, and Williams, but now my expectations are tempered. I don't really think Poole or Brown is capable of having a great season with our offense this year.
It is simply my opinion that CLK did some things last year specifically for future recruiting purposes and not to win games last year. I think he started making investments in a 3-4 year plan the minute he showed up. He ran guys off. He culled some of the recruits that CPF had committed that he didn't think would fit his program. AND... I believe he made personnel decisions to promote recruiting as well.
It's a reasonable theory, but I'd just feel better about it if there were more evidence of that occurring with other positions.
Again, I don't think it was stupid to do it... maybe unfair to some guys but if the team and championships are what matter and you want the shortest route... some guys may not get exactly what they deserve.
I think CLK and company were doing well this past recruiting season in part because they could go to elite players and say "We played Freshmen last year and have much more opportunity this year for YOU". If Hardesty the Sr can carry the load or better yet split it with a comparable 5* Fr then you have a great selling point... "Do you want to be the next Hardesty?" If you have a rising Jr cluttering the depth chart... not so much.
I believe Kiffin was about recruiting every moment of every day while he was at UT... everything else, even immediate wins, was secondary through his short tenure
Is that the story some of yall are rolling with? "We didn't want him back anyway, bc of his weak work-ethic?" Wow, just wow. That's pitiful.

The best case scenario for me would be for him to come back and just be a superstar for three years. I doubt it happens, but it'd be hilarious to watch these people that called him a "pre-Madonna" try to rationalize their newfound love for the guy.
Wylie and Hiestand keep my hopes alive with regard to the offense. They are the ONLY things I see to hang a hat on.I had high hopes for Poole, Brown, and Williams, but now my expectations are tempered. Many thought it had something to do with JC keeping the job over NS. I thought JC was the better option but that does not preclude the recruitment of top tier QB's being a consideration. It's a reasonable theory, but I'd just feel better about it if there were more evidence of that occurring with other positions.
