In spite of that, Brown got chance after chance until he flat out proved he couldn't take anything from MH. My point wasn't about Hardesty at all. It was about the chances Brown got in spite of not producing at MH's level vs the short trip to the back of the bus Poole got when he was hotter than MH.

What? When was Poole hotter than Hardesty? If I recall correctly Hardesty solidified his position very early on and therefore didn't get as many carries in the scrimmages from then on.

I love Hardesty. I see alot of similarities between his experience and Poole's. Poole hasn't been injured but he kept his nose clean and worked hard while Coker was getting the PT. He sat behind Foster when Foster wasn't performing. In frustration, MH made his dissatisfaction with his opportunities public. When he finally got even a glimmer of a shot... he showed he was the stud THAT SOME OF US SAID HE COULD BE.

I don't think Poole was here in 2006. Poole got some carries in 2008, but couldn't do anything more than Creer, Hardesty, or Foster. I'm not sure what glimmer of a shot you're talking about. He did awesome against WKU and then decent against Virginia Tech. That's all. He may be a stud, but he has not shown it.

Last year this time I was attacked constantly for the mere suggestion that Brown wouldn't be the #1 RB. Now there are people who just can't believe that playing Poole in front of Brown or allowing Poole to look good wouldn't have interferred with Kiffin's agenda. Kiffin made no bones about his program being all about recruiting high profile talent to UT. You either get those guys because your program is elite... or because they believe they can start early and help the program become elite.

I'm just not sure I get it. Kiffin could have also given Marsalis Teague a lot more PT. I think he could have been justified over at least Quintin Hancock early in the year when Jones and Moore were sidelined.

Having an established two deep at RB doesn't help you get guys like Dyer (who CLK whiffed on anyway).

I don't think having the #1 recruit true freshman running back excelling would help with recruiting a five star running back a year later.

Done deal. I'll most definitely keep my end of the wager, and I expect you will do the same.

All right, I'm in on Hat's side. Even if it ends up being 3 vs. 2.

While we're at it, I say we open the bet to anyone who wants to join in. How about we keep it open until the UTM game kicks off?

Poole got three carries vs VT in a still competitive game and gained 15 yds. He found holes that MH had been missing. MH to that point had 14 carries for 23 yds... CLK summararily re-buried Poole on the bench.

I don't think Poole was here in 2006.
What on earth does this have to do with the conversation?
Poole got some carries in 2008, but couldn't do anything more than Creer, Hardesty, or Foster.
Hardesty was 3rd string in that group. Saying Poole didn't do much with 22 carries in mop up as a true Freshman... doesn't mean alot.

The point was about MH. Hardesty was buried too. People this time last year were talking about his 300 career yds or whatever it was. Most wouldn't even say he could be a stud but hadn't shown it. He didn't get a glimmer of a shot until Creer and Foster were gone... then he went nuts. Poole didn't get much of an opportunity either. Both guys expressed clearly that they thought they deserved a better shot than they had gotten.

I don't know what Poole will do with a real opportunity. He may flop or follow right along in MH's footsteps.

It is just my honest opinion that NO ONE but Bryce Brown was going to be #2 last year. In fact, I believe he would have started over Hardesty regardless of what MH did if the gap between the two hadn't been so great.

Maybe let me put it like this- if BB had torn up practice like Poole reportedly did, he would have started over MH. Kiffin had a point he thought he needed to make with Brown to future recruits.

I'm not even saying it wasn't a practical plan... just simply that it seems to me that it WAS the plan.

Because there's enough carries for two... not three. It isn't limited to just RB's though. It is sales pitch to any 5* recruit at any position.

That is fine with me.. I would say more are willing to get in on it.

I'll take this bet without hesitation.

Dudes, why would you bet 2-7 when they were willing to go 3-6?

Heck no!!!...lol...

hat probably could have suckered me into it, but didn't.

I'll sit pat at 3-6.

(Don't stir the pot, voldad)

Go Vols.

He got 3 carries. Not a big enough data set. As discussed before, the team had lived and died with Hardesty, and he'd come out on the positive end more often than not. Not really much reason to dump him in his last game as a Vol.

What on earth does this have to do with the conversation?

You said he was riding the pine behind Coker.

Hardesty had had enough carries to show what he could do. He got more carries than Arian in a few games. Poole hasn't.

Both guys expressed clearly that they thought they deserved a better shot than they had gotten.

Poole and who?

I don't know what Poole will do with a real opportunity. He may flop or follow right along in MH's footsteps.

That sounds good. You said before he showed us he was the stud you said he was. I didn't think that was right. I personally think he'll be just fine... pending the OL isn't the worst in my lifetime.

Just don't see it. Kiffin would have done horribly without a very good running game that you just could not have possibly expected from any freshman not named Herschel Walker. With Hardesty, Kiffin had a winning season and was a heartbeat away from instant legend with a win over Bama. Downgrade Hardesty's tremendous performance to mediocre and all that goes away.

Maybe let me put it like this- if BB had torn up practice like Poole reportedly did, he would have started over MH. Kiffin had a point he thought he needed to make with Brown to future recruits.

I believe Hardesty had pretty much wrapped up the starter spot before Bryce started practicing.

I'm not even saying it wasn't a practical plan... just simply that it seems to me that it WAS the plan.

Just out of curiousity, was Bryce not doing well in practice? I know Poole and Williams were, but I seem to recall a lot of impressive reports coming out about Brown, as well.

Some guys are cool with that. Some aren't. Oku was a guy that said he didn't care how many RB's we brought in. Dyer chose to sign with a school that didn't have a prospective phenom in front of him. Lache Seastrunk supposedly said he wasn't interested in us because of Brown.

If you are right and Hat loses, that would suck. I look forward to his venom. Hopefuly he would just come back as Hatvol169. Good luck getting SGM to wager with you. Stones are not something he posseses.

Well tough guy, now the ball's in your court. Are you going to take it and go home now?

"After Tennessee's football coaching change, running back Bryce Brown said he wanted to evaluate the new staff before deciding on his future in Big Orange Country." His brother Arthur left Miami for Kansas State and has said that Bryce is evaluating Tennessee's new coaching staff before deciding whether to make the move to his home state school.

Has Bryce completed his "evaluation" yet? If so, hopefully he publishes his findings, with details. Maybe he could make it into a book!

I think he's currently working on a self help book for fans that get hysterical over the decisions of 19 year olds they've never met.

And that makes Lache a puss. Point?

Ahhh, hat and I got into it a couple of weeks back. I don't regret the wager, I'm pretty confident I'll win, but I almost hate to see hat go. For all his venom, he is a sharp poster.

hat says UT will go no better than 2-7 against UF, UGA, and Bama over the next 3 seasons. I took the "over". Loser leaves VolNation.

I'll miss hat. I won't miss SGM, assuming (a) he has the sack to back up his words, and (b) he has the character to honor the wager.

hat has been here a long time, and he will be missed. SGM will be replaced within a week by the next idiot NegaVol with an internet connection.

Go Vols.

awesome bet! I'd take over on this. We will beat UGA twice and FL will get stung. DD will beat Saban in 2013 for the SECCG.

I take this to mean you're in? We currently have 3 taking under and 2 taking over.

I will miss Hat too. But he may be a full USC fan by then. USC will be off probation.
