Wow...stop talking...now. Reuben Droughns, Maurice Morris and Jonathan Stewart absolutely do not compare to Pro Bowlers like Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry and Charlie Garner. Lewis had more rushing yards in his first three seasons than Oregon's leading NFL rusher, Droughns, has in his life.
I have to disagree. And, in terms of relevance to Bryce Brown, Oregon looks better.
Average yards per carry / reception:
Droughns 3.9 / 8
Morris 4.3 / 7.5
Stewart 4.5 / 5.9
Smith 4.9 / 10.3
Lewis 4.2 / 8.4
Henry 4.1 / 6.7
Garner 4.6 / 8.9
Lewis is a great RB. That's why I mentioned him in my first post. But, what staff responsible for his coaching in college is still with UT?
Jonathan Stewart scored 10 TDs as a rookie in the NFL while splitting carries. He was coached by the same staff that Oregon will retain during Bryce Browns college career.
In fact, Tennessee has a better record sending players to the NFL than Oregon does at pretty much every position...the two are not even really comparable. This is Oregon we are talking about. Their best NFL player is Ngata, and Haynesworth is MUCH better at the same position.
What does lineman performance in the NFL have to do with RB preparation?
Onterrio Smith and his Whizzinator were NOT solid contributors to the NFL. Nowhere close. Never got 600 yards in a season, got effectively kicked out of the NFL (two-year suspension) and...
Of all the players we've mentioned, Smith had the highest average per rush and per reception. So, I have to disagree.
It's true that his career was cut short by off-field idiocy and that was disappointing. However, what does his off-field decisions have to do with how well his college team prepared him to play in the NFL?
Oh and then he got arrested.
Fail.
Again, completely irrelevant to the subject at hand. But, funny coming from a person hailing Travis Henry as a positive example.
