I'd like to see it back. First UT game I ever went to was the beer barrel game

me too. i was maybe 7 or 8 and we were only 2 or 3 games into the current streak. on our way into the stadium before the game i had this old man in all blue wave a flag with a big k in my face. it got me riled up but my dad told me not to worry... he's been right about that for almost 30 years now

Bring back the beer barrel! It reflects the culture of southern Appalachia, whether some of us like it or not. I can understand the original motivation to take it away, but also think it's time we bring it back.

Bring it back, and the the Cigar smoking after the Bama game too. I know i know we haven't beat them in a while but I still buy one in case we win cause I know I won't get one, and hand it to an old bama guy at the bar I'm at if we lose. Usually gets a nostalgic smile out them.

Watts was in jail from March 31 to July 19. Circuit Judge Daniel J. Venters released him early and sentenced him to five years probation.

good to know you can kill someone by drinking and driving, only to serve a couple months of prison time and 5 years probation. sickening

Not playing for the beer barrel will at least keep everyone from drinking one time of year. No telling how many deaths can be attributed to the beer barrel.

The reason they stopped using it was reasonable. I would say the trinket was fun, but we can live without it. I don't think you want to risk hurting the feelings of the families invoved with that - unimaginably terrible what they had to go through.

No it's not. Alcohol related incidents like that happen everywhere all the time. The Barrel did nothing wrong to anybody.

trophy for the UT/Kentucky football rivalry. The last time we played for the barrell was in 1999. It was a decision made by C.W. Newton and the UT AD, Doug Dickey. It was stopped because two UK players were killed in an alcohol related accident.

I say bring it back. It was a 74 year tradition that made the game a little more important for both teams. I have no problem with it.

I have to admit - I miss the beer barrel tradition. Maybe that is why our boys didn't win last year - there wasn't a "prize" at the end of the game ;-)
