The bbq was legit. He was having it for recruits that were permissible to be off campus. The Krafts just showed up announced. He had become pretty close with the kraft family and didn't think it would ever become an issue.

The rest of your points are spot on.

Doesn't really matter because his continually lying and asking others to lie for him are what cost him, as it should have, but is that particular tid bit true? Not that I don't believe it, just surprised that I somehow have never heard that specific detail.

It is true. It was part of the investigation that was released. Pearl said something along the lines of "come on in, you're not supposed to be here but if you won't tell I won't".

Edit: And to me that makes it even more of a head scratcher. Why not just say "yep, they showed up and I didn't want to be rude so I asked them in. Didn't think it was all that big of a deal."

Bruce's problem was that he came in with the reputation as a liar, and then, as soon as the pressure was on, he once again lied. The NCAA was looking for him to lie, and he did so early and often in the investigation. Bruce's big issue was that he lived up to his reputation.

Counzo Martin, who most Pearl backers think absolutely sucks, averaged over 20 wins a year, had the third best record in his conference during his time here, and made a Sweet Sixteen. Now, if such a sucky coach like Martin could do that, how come Pearl is the only guy that can win here?

Zj, I think it has to do with the lack of confidence that the UTAD will make the right hire, and rightfully so. Whereas Bruce is a known commodity.

Most reasonable fans realize that there isn't a snowballs chance in he!! Bruce is coming back.

Martin also played Pearl to a 4 point game in Knoxville when he was at Missouri State.

As soon at UT fans accept this fact, the bball program will begin to be better. The issue is if anyone not named 'Pearl' is hired, the fans (at least the ones on here calling for Pearl's return) will be skeptical and never buy into the new coach...did this not happen with Cuanzo and Tyndall?

Bruce was an unproven coach before coming to UT. UT got lucky that they hired a mid-major coach who ended up being legit. I'm convinced there are a handful of mid-major coaches out there right now that could do as well or better than Pearl did at UT.

Then why not simply hire Pearl? If our love for Pearl (the best coach in team history) is a problem, why not simply rehire him.

I can name several that haven't ever been blackballed from the coaching profession for being a liar, and then, when given another a second chance, lied again. This isn't about secondary violations. It never was. It is about Pearl lying to the NCAA once, making them look bad, and then, later, lying to them again, but this time, the NCAA was in a position to hammer him officially, instead of the unofficial blackballing he received. I will not be shocked if he finds the same fate at Auburn.

There are several reasons. 1) Hart cannot afford to hire anyone with NCAA violation baggage after what happened with CDT. He's looking for a fresh start in the program...much like Butch in football. 2) I don't think Pearl wants to return to a position under Cheek and Hart. I know Hart wasn't the AD when Pearl was there last, but Cheek was still around...and there're the reports he didn't leave UT in the best of terms with some. 3) Pearl's current buyout is 5 million and it drops to 4 in mid April apparently...I don't think UT is willing to pay that amount.

I'll reiterate...you need to buy into and trust the current AD staff. Hart realizes he made a mistake with CDT and won't make it again.

He did nothing near what Pearl did. A number 1 ranking and an elite 8 appearance are two things that have only been done by Bruce Pearl.

Of course it is that simple. He wins. Fans love him. He served his time. He wants to be here. Ticket sales are down, and the fan base needs someone they can believe in.

There's not a better fit for our program than Pearl.

Of course. There's other coaches who can win here, but there's not a lot of them that can win here on the same level that Pearl did.

So why roll the dice with an unknown coach, who may or may not be able to do it? We have a proven winner who wants to be here.
