I say this for reference only and am in no way suggesting a similar result... but Saban's first Bama team appeared to get worse rather than better. He ended up purging a bunch of players before the 2nd year iirc.

The difference between now and then is the scholarship limitations. Back then they weren’t as restrictive as they are now. Purge to many and we have absolutely no depth or practice players. Purge to little and we cant sign as many new players.

People forget how bad the roster was before Pruitt even got here.

Calloway, Chandler, Jennings, Taylor, for sure. JG may have a chance on some teams.

Tatum maybe but not at lt. Along with Phillips, warrior and maybe Buchanan (long shot) but could start for someone.
May even say all our lbs would have a shot on a few teams.

Okay, it cant be proven either way so it really doesnt matter. If they didnt make the 3 deep, thats enough for 3 teams, in a league of 14 so.....

Just another argument to prop up Pruitt and avoid and criticism..

Piss on players that can't take criticism, that come here and don't do what they've signed up for. I do not have one little bitty problem with a coach calling them out when they repeatedly suck and give bad effort. If they don't like it hit the damn road and make room for players that love the game and work their arses off to get better..

i imagine that they were probably called out in practice and when they didnt respond to that they were called out in the media.

Our defensive line was probably the worst in the sec. there was never any pressure on the qb and our sack total wasn’t much better from last year to this year. Opposing qb’s had no fear of the pass rush and that’s why teams like vandy and mizzou had career days on us. The honest to God truth is that we have to give Pruitt time to get his guys in to be able to judge if he’s a good coach or not. Butch Jones’s guys were not any good and no amount of coaching was gonna change that

If you don't have a strong defensive line then the offense just double teams your best D lineman and that pretty well limits what can be done.
When your corners blitz and a lineman or RB steps in front of them and then they stop and start doing the shuffle or dancing with the guy it's pitiful and yes I seen it.

2017 - 22 Total team sacks / 5 ints
2018 - 25 Total team sacks / 11 ints

Not a huge difference but definitely improvement

If it is then yes, you're right Butch Jones was a terrible recruiter but he must have been a hell of a coach. He had a chance to reach 5-7 before he was fired and he had no JJ and no Kirkland. He easily dealt with worse injury issues throughout the season also.

JP gets blown out in a half orange stadium by a 5-7 Vandy team and people are blaming the previous coach who didn't even coach in the last Vandy game...

Liking cornbread is cool but it shouldn't buy him this much leeway.
