Clean house and start the rebuild in earnest. I want to win now like all Vol fans, but no magic dust is going to make it happen. Time and hard work is the formula. Let's get it started.

We didnt have a player in the starting 22 that would start on a conference team we played. Callaway and Jennings would get some reps as would Chandler. That’s about it.

Sad. Too bad JP can’t get rid of 50 and sign 50 new ones.

Mike you know he said "some players". What is important is that THEY know who they are and THEY know he was talking about THEM. That is the important part. THEY know he threw them under the bus. Have you ever been on a team where something like this happened. When this happens you don't have your coaches nor the teams best interest at heart. It's just the way it is.
Unless a player plays his/her heart out, he/she is not being "thrown under the bus" if called out.

Okay. Who would start on another SEC team we played?
Calloway, Chandler, Jennings, Taylor, for sure. JG may have a chance on some teams.

Tatum maybe but not at lt. Along with Phillips, warrior and maybe Buchanan (long shot) but could start for someone.
May even say all our lbs would have a shot on a few teams.

To say nobody wohld start at alabama, lsu...okay. But the entire conference including vandy, arkansas, ol miss etc....cmon man.

I said of the teams we played. I also said Jennings Callaway Chandler would get reps. I missed Taylor; he might be the best player on the team.

Missed that "we played" part, my bad. Still stand just reduced a bit. Our WR would start at UK, all they have is snell.

Yeah, taylor is probably the best on the team.

It's reaching absurd levels how completely some fans have bought the "we have no talent" spin from Pruitt. During the coaching search, all you heard was "we are so much better than when Dooley left", "the cupboard is not bear now" "somebody can walk in here and compete". The coach lays out a spin to justify not doing well the first year, and suddenly we don't have a player who knows the basic rules of football.

The coaches had a whole year to make improvements in this team. They seemed to regress rather than improve
No they improved and beat UA, and UK and were set to get bowl eligible and then the lazy CBJ losers that didn’t want to because it meant they would have to work more quit

He's a truth-teller! That's something that a bunch of you PC liberal, millennial wusses just can't understand.
And he's recruiting. Those elite HS players actually LIKE honesty in a coach, and not just a bunch of rah-rah crap!

CJP KNOWS how he has to get his OWN RECRUITS...guys who will submit to coaching and not going crying to mama every time coach chews his azz out for poor effort and performance. Those kind of guys become CHAMPIONS because they will do ANYTHING and pay any price to get BETTER!

And the "players who can get you in many different ways" don't exist on teams like Clemson and Alabama because the Head Coach has run their butts off!

I hope CJP cleans the excrement out this off-season.

Pruitt should have kept his mouth SHUT to the media about the players.

If u havent played sports in college then u dont understand..Most kids would rather go home then playing in a BS low tier bowl game..Trust me..Im not saying that was the case tonight but I can guarantee they would rather go home

You are right I did not play college sports. I did not have a free ride in college and everything paid for.

Instead I worked a full time job for 40 hours a week. Took a full load of classes and went to school every summer. I paid my own way. No Christmas breaks, no summer breaks, but yeah I guess I can’t understand what it is to grind.

I was able to grind out a bachelor and masters degree.

It is a privilege to go to school at UT and it is sure enough a privilege to play football at UT.

As fans I do not think it crazy for us to be concerned when we learn that members of this team do not want to play football and were unwilling to grind to do so.

Okay. Who would start on another SEC team we played?

trey smith was the only guy. He coulda played and started for UGA, Bama, or LSU.

JG couldn't start for anyone in the SEC....he couldn't beat out KY, Ole Sis, or Arky's QBs. Yes, I said it--none of 'em.

JJ could get playing time on other SEC teams as a back-up, but wouldn't start at WR for any of 'em.
Same for Callaway.

Taylor would get playing time for Ole Miss and Arky...the only other teams in the SEC with defenses as bad or worse than ours--but is that really saying anything?

Do you guys really ever watch the youtube replays of the games? It's all there on the film if you actually know how to evaluate it....

So why did these 'obvious' quitters get to play ? Lost with them and could lose without them

Probably because our depth sucks and have to field a team somehow.

People forget how bad the roster was before Pruitt even got here.

Pruitt should have kept his mouth SHUT to the media about the players.

Orangesicle, the only reason I could come up with for the reason for the comments about recruiting over players to the media is, that he and staff identified the players that don’t fit with his program and not playing to their potential is, to let them know that it’s time for them to move on. I would hope that the players that have bought in know it’s not about them. Not many of us know what goes on behind close doors.

at least the back ups are willing to play - where is that Greg Emerson been all season ?

Hey.. No way am I sticking up for the guys that quit on this team, but I will just throw this out there. There are way too many bowls. As a fan, it's hard to get excited about Legion field. I'd still go though. Some of these bowls are a) the equivalent of a participation trophy and b) a wealth redistribution scheme for people like me. Eliminate some of them and the reward of going goes up.

Getting back on topic, I heard Ainge and Brian Rice say a while back, that they doubted some in this group slapped the "I will give my all for Tennessee today" sign. We need to get back to the point where it's a privilege to be in that locker room and keep the Maxims in the forefront. As old and trite as they may seem, the Maxims are still the key to winning football.

When did Coach Pruitt say “we have no talent”? Making statements that he will recruit 25 more players over some, is not the same as you alluded to.

I believe Brian is correct. It is obvious that some players gave up before games were decided. One can not have wanted to win very badly with the performances I saw Against UF, USCe UMo, and Vandy. On the other hand, we saw some frehmen who play better and btter as they gained experience. Attitude, the will, to woke hard to win, is the biggest component to winning. It is the only thing which kept Auburn is the Bama game last night until talent and depth took over the game.

And the fact that freshmen, that CJP recruited, have grown as the season has gone on, should tell us something. I don’t have a clue if Pruitt will have success here, but it shows us something that his recruits are making a name for themselves and competing.

Correct. He says it every time I hear him, in literally every single interview. I’ve never heard a coach be so accountable and talk about he himself needing to be better. (Btw, he’s right).

That said, people only wanna hear what they think validates their opinion.

Pruitt has to be better, much better, cause he stunk it up his first year. And it ended so badly, I don’t think he’ll ever be the guy to get it turned around. But to give as the reason was his lack of accountability? That’s just 100% wrong.
Tennessee: One game will define whether Jeremy Pruitt’s first season will be viewed as a success or failure. If the Vols can beat Vanderbilt, they’ll be 6-6 while building a narrative that Pruitt exceeded expectations heading into an important recruiting class. If they finish 5-7, the story will be that Tennessee got blown out five times by 25 or more points, which points directly at Pruitt’s defense and an inability to keep his team in games. Tennessee has rarely looked more overwhelmed than in Saturday’s 50-17 loss in Neyland to Missouri.

Part of me wants to tune in tomorrow to listen to how all their station’s shows polish a turd, but part of me knows this turd has already been polished so much by that station that it’s brighter than the sun.

You can’t coach a kid that doesn’t want to be coached. Not even Saban can do that.
