Brian Maurer throwing shade on twitter

Just my opinion, but at 20 years old, they are no longer kids, they are men who need to be able to handle criticism or play intramural football for funsies.
Idk. Back when I was 20 talking chit to me probably wasn’t the best of ideas. Now that I’ve matured someone may get away with a little BS as long as they don’t get too carried away. Which I would imagine is the case with most of us guys. Putting my 20 yr old self in these kids situation today, Im surprised we don’t see it much more tbh because we know damn well at 20 we wouldn’t have put up with too many personal attacks before we found ourselves at the nearest Waffle House.

Context... Not condoning what he did but I'm pretty sure it was a pissing match by a handful of jackass "fans" who were bashing JG and Brian was trying to take up for him and it obviously went south.... I don't think he was trying to throw shade over the entire fanbase...

Never the less, he should've "bit his tongue"...

Perhaps he should have. I am sure there are a few angry fans contact them personally on Twitter. If I were a decision maker over there, I would discourage the players from getting on social media that fans can respond to. Instead, have a platform that only players can access and throw shade at each other. And we can link it to here or other sites. And if they prefer to have a peek? Up to them.

But still, a better way for these guys to respond is to find a way to win. I have long held the belief that in any team sport that victory is most often determined by which team wants it the most. Yeah in some cases, the officials blow key calls, and in others, the game plan has deficiencies. But that burning overwhelming desire to win is what overcomes adversity, pushes greater preparation, and gives a never say die attitude that makes all the difference. And it turns a group of different individuals into a cohesive determined team of men worthy of championships.

And while I can to a degree admire him standing up to the unposted comment that led to that response? The best way to stop these kind of messages from reaching their eyes is by getting their act together, and playing up to their potential. As long as they continue to fall short and play well below expectations? Don't expect fans to be supportive.

Personally, I am sick of coaches referring to players as kids. Last time I checked, every last one of them are over 18. Kidhood is at an end. If a war broke out, they could be drafted. If they break the law, they don't go to juvenile court, or get put in time out. Call them kids, coddle them like kids, and treat them like kids. Don't be shocked when they act like kids. Treat them as men, call them men, and put expectations upon them of men, and hopefully, they will act like men. And play this game like men.

I’d remove him from the team for the remainder of the season. I’d also implement a strict social media policy so that certain players can’t represent the university in a poor way such as getting into a pissing match and passive agressively calling out people on social media that they’ve never met and need not waste their time on when they could be i dunno, getting better at football.

I remember seeing a locker room speech from Fulmer before the NC game VS Florida St. He told the team that they need to acknowledge what a privilege it was to put on those orange shirts and how many before them have put on those orange shirts and paved the way for them to be there in that moment. Those orange shirts don’t mean as much as they used to. That is the fault of many, including Fulmer, and this new generation doesn’t understand that. They only know that Peyton played here.
With that said, I don’t blame BM. I don’t question that he feels he and the rest of the team give whatever they have to make this bunch better, and that all they get from us is bitching. It has to wear on somebody. I remember a similar conversation with a Finebaum caller to an Alabama QB who was a guest on his show back before he went to ESPN.
The struggle is real for everybody involved. He definitely needs some maturing, but I feel his pain. I wouldn’t want to hear it either. The finger pointing has gone too far. We need changes at the top.

First, it's way to late in the season to implement the "strict social media ploicy". At this point it comes off as desperate and won't work.
Second, you can't kick Maurer to the curb and THEN implement your policy that should've been there the whole season. That's just ass backwards and wrong..

The kid is 100% correct. I dare say that 90% of the fans have no idea what these kids go through throughout the year. They literally do put out blood, sweat, and tears while trying to satisfy fans who know very little about football. It has to be rough to hear all of the criticism that know-nothings put on them. If fans want to put the blame on someone for the ineffectiveness of this team, lay it at the feet of the coaches who have failed in their coaching and lack of development of the kids.

Cool, meanwhile I froze my ass off as well as spent sweltering days in the Generals house watching the legacy and pride that Al, Leonard, Peyton, Peerless, Jabari, and Big John to name a few build to watch Pruitt and Co. (including Maurer) destroy it further. I e been wearing Orange and paying thousands of dollars as well before this milksop was a sperm cell. I’ve been deployed to two continents so he can shove his self perceived sacrifices, played D1 athletics as well (not really a sacrifice). He is so out of touch and probably due to age but this kid is absolutely coming off as an idiot.
Thank you for your service!

As others have stated..... the fans pour out their blood sweat and tears to be able to afford to go to games to watch a lousy team on the field. While BM has the right to say these things, the fans also have the right to be unhappy with the product on the field. If any of us do a bad job at our place of employment, it doesn't matter how "hard" we work, we will likely be let go.

Well, there is something called the first amendment.

Eh whatever. Remove a kid for being a stupid kid? He’s a clueless idiot but most of us were at that age.

Appreciate it, but the point I’m trying to convey is these athletes now try to glamorize and embellish the term sacrifice as well as their concept of what is theirs. Unfortunately they don’t have far sight and realize they will become the very thing that Mr. Maurer here is moaning about... a fan. Nothing more, nothing less.

Seeing too many people calling these players kids. Keep it up, guys. This is one of the big reasons why you do not deserve a championship.

The first amendment gives us freedom of speech, not the freedom from punishment of our speech.
I mean.... what should his “punishment” really be? He’s already been benched, looked over, not given a chance and criticized. He didn’t break any laws. He never gets in trouble off the field. Has been about as good of teammate as you can ask for. So what should his “punishment” be? Dismissal?

Not saying he should be punished, simply saying people can be for speech. I said BM has every right to say what he said.

My fault. Thought you were suggesting he should be punished somehow. A lot of that going around.
