Brian Maurer may be gone?

Commenting on a whiny social media post is a far cry from a personal attack.
I guess calling a starting quarterback at the University of Tennessee "whiny" is not a personal attack either..... dude just go away. I am sure there are some teenagers with their pants too low you could go yell at.

How can you say that and be absolutely sure? The last staff didn’t have a clue. He only got a chance when JG pissed daddy off bad enough
Which part? He was a 3* ranked the #17 in his class. We were his best option, I don't blame the kid for coming here but lets be honest if you can't beat out JG or JG is our best option then this shouldn't be a surprise. I like the kid and his energy and wish him well but QB1 at Power 5 school isn't in his stars.

Kid is a good athlete and competitor but he was also injury prone, inaccurate with his throws and simply didn't have the it factor imo. He would run too quickly and not stand in the pocket. Not a good combination when you are injury prone. Good luck to him.

Yep, and you could've just scrolled on by my post without giving your $.02, yet here we are. The real world must be scary for you.

If he’s mired at 4th in the depth chart then I guess I don’t blame him. He won’t see the field ahead of the other 3.
Hope he finds a place and does well. Maybe FCS.

It must have been terrible last year for Brian when Pruitt would pull him from a game, while leaving an inept qb in the game who had thrown several interceptions. Brian played well against the toughest competition, while the other qb put up non-scoring stats. Pruitt used intimidation and humiliation tactics against Brian during games, for all to see. I do not know how he handled it, but I never heard or saw him complain.

Brian says he is a soldier, does that mean he’s staying at Tennessee? If he’s not the starter, and has to wait for the job to somehow “fall in his lap”, I hope he goes elsewhere, because I believe Brian can be a great quarterback.

As it is, if he leaves, we are stuck with 2 quarterbacks who couldn’t be the starting quarterback at the schools they left. I’ve always preferred more pro-style quarterback play, so if the qb choice was based on who looks tougher to take hits while running, I’m disappointed. This situation lessens my excitement about, and confidence in, the new Coach.

Good luck, Brian!

Not to be snarky, I really like Maurer, but maybe the guy who played QB at a high level, has had offensive coaching success in division one, a track record of developing quality QB's, and manages an offense that puts up impressive passing stats knows more about spotting QB talent than we do?

I did find the baggy pant teenager comment pretty funny tho.

You really think JG was our best option or he was the guy because he knew what cheek to kiss?

It’s not the first option.

4 days into Fall practice and he is quitting, that is the temperance of his generation....
Against better judgment I've been having twitter arguments with young people because they feel as though their parents should take care of them indefinitely, and if they don't, they're $hitty parents. What adult wants to stay in their parents house forever?

I bet you could not do the 4 days of preseason practice or the years that he played here and gave his all. Don't criticize what you don't know and what you are incapable of doing.
I bet you have never quit a thing.... especially for an opportunity to fulfill a dream of being a starting quarterback at the collegiate level. Just don't understand the banging on a guy that wants to try something different, especially if doesn't hurt anyone.
Well maybe it is possible that you don't really understand the circumstances and should just acknowledge that you don't. Maybe silence in regard to something that your ignorant about is better than assuming he is something that he may not be since you don't know him personally. What I do know is when he played I was pulling for him and hoping the best for him, and I don't think he is a bad guy because he wants another chance with a team that will give it to him. But hey, I'm not a tough guy like you.
I think you should stick with "I do not know his reasons" and quite trying to assume that you know what is best for him. That is the whole point of this discussion, if he wants to leave that is fine with him. It is not like he is leaving like Henry T, Crouch, Wanya, Gray or even Chandler where the team could have used him and he is letting them down for an individual reason. He is leaving for a dream. If he leaves today, enrolls with another school and starts practicing their system would that not be better for him?

For once, maybe we should consider the fact that we don't know what is best for people that we don't know, and stop the personal attacks against a young man that has done nothing but love the Vols.
It doesn't hurt the team if he is leaving. It will only be hurting the team if he stays and he does it again. From what I have seen of the young man he does not look to be a cancer. I saw him repeatedly congratulate other QBs that played in front of him last year. Just chill out, he is a young man who had his dream popped yesterday. I will judge Brian Mauer not on yesterday, but his whole career and he gave his all every time he competed. Best of luck young man!
I don't recall anyone asking you a question. You offered an unsolicited opinion about the integrity of a young man. You did much more than comment on his decision, you attacked him personally for no reason. I can see your dilemma, if you are quiet on things you are ignorant about you would never get a word in anywhere.

Brian's dad is on Volnation! Look I don't think anyone is personally attacking the guy, and for the most part many on here have been rooting for the guy and really like him. The issue that most are pointing out is the Tweet that this board is about. Saying that the coaches "took his dream away" - dude, nothing is given, it is earned. That rubbed fans the wrong way.

Bad judgement maybe. Isn't the portal kinda closed for the time being? Just stay enrolled and gain the credits because I think he has to wait until the winter semester to enroll elsewhere anyway. I'd continue practicing to keep my game polished up even knowing I was going to transfer. He'll find a decent landing spot.

I believe most on here have the opinion that Maurer was talented, but extremely reckless. He took unneeded risks with both his body and his throws. The 2 TDs to 5 INTs shows the latter, the play where he could have easily broken his neck the former. I wish him the best and hope he does find a QB coach with the ability to reign in his impulsiveness and help him reach his potential.

It’s not the first option.
never said JG was the guy, just that he wasn't beaten out. As much as I want to blame JG, Maurer not beating him out in practice was not JG's problem.

Best way I’ll can put this is Maurer habitually did the right thing the wrong way. That stuff absolutely can hurt the team. A disgruntled qb can absolutely cause toxicity within the locker room by what they say, post, or act.
So, are you saying Maurer was/is the cause of toxicity in the locker room?

It’s debatable that he got beat out in practice.
Zackly! From the writers of “How Worley Won The Starting Job Over Dobbs” and it’s sequel “Hurd Was Better Than Kamara And Has The Carries To Prove It.”

What did Brian Maurer do to make Brian Maurer the starting or at least #2 QB on the roster? Nothing. He now plays for a HC that won a National Championship as a QB. Heupel went to Weber State out of HS and tore his ACL while there. He then transferred to Snow College to play. He then got an offer from Utah State and from Bob Stoops. He went on to be a runner up in the Heisman, AP Player of the Year, an All American, and beat FSU for Stoops only NC. If any player thinks a guy with that type of work ethic as a player himself is going to just hand them over something while they are here for any reason.....they have lost their f'n minds.

Some of you guys react like Maurer personally hurt you...grow up and stoping spending your life worrying about freaking 20 year old tweets..do we need a doll to point out where Maurers tweets hurt you???
It’s the way of those VN posters that have no athletic skills and get so winded walking up a flight of stairs they almost pass out.

It’s debatable that he got beat out in practice.

Not if the production on the field doesn't warrant a debate by BM or JS. Shrout was in the same boat, transferred out. Maurer with two concussions and limited playing time makes me side on the M-F practice talk to those that were there. He wasn't the best option.... again, I'm not saying JG was either. Let's not confuse BM and JG with Peyton and Brandon Stewart either. Neither JG or BM are winning Tennessee titles as QB1. This comparison is more Joey Matthews and AJ Suggs with Casey waiting in the wings to be cleared.

I liked the pace and energy, but his backyard - intramural style play isn't ideal for SEC.
