Bret Bielema and Butch Jones comparison

Bielema beat Butch in Knoxville with less talent.

I'd trade with Arkansas in a New York minute.

I guarantee Jalen Hurd would too.

I like Brett...watched a lot when he was at Wisconsin.
I was surprised when he came to the SEC...wasn't sure if his style would fit.

Ultimately though, he is going to face the same problem we are witnessing this year at Tennessee...it is hard to recruit 4 and 5 star talent to fill out the 2nd and 3rd strings to still remain competitive in this conference.

To answer the question though, I think Butch was given less to work with...so slight advantage to CBJ.

Butch is flashier and fun to follow. Bielema is boring. Bielema is a better all around coach and better with the x's and o's.

Up until last weekend I would of said Butch. ARK. hasn't recruited as highly as UT but BB is a better coach

Bret won the head to head. Also they play in the west. Easily Bret has done better so far.

The "they play in the west" argument is a lot weaker when you consider that we play bama every year and typically play a tougher OOC schedule. Someone posted the SoS ranks earlier in the thread and it's pretty close and UT has the better record by several games.

Butch lost to Muschamp against two of the worst Florida teams ever, and there was last week

I have to go with the crew cut to the West with the hot wife and near identical record in a tougher division.

Sorry to all the Butch acolytes.

She's hot. People exaggerate too much on her though. He's making millions, pretty women find that attractive sometimes.

I'd say it's pretty even.

Bielema has to play all the teams in the west every year so his record is a little worse (23-23 according to Wikipedia)

Jones is 26-20 (again wikipedia)

However, Bielema has a heads up win on Butch and runs a traditional offense with a power game. I'd give the nod to Bielema right now.

Bielema will never have a bad offense due to poor offensive line.

Until the SEC implements coach-swapping, it's just an idle question, a curiosity.

I agree with most here, very closely balanced. Could give it to Bret based on that one head-to-head game. Or could give it to Butch for the extra 3 Ws over three years.

*shrug*

Why start making excuses for the guy before anyone can answer? Afraid the thread is not going to go so well? Bielema knew which conference and which side of the house his school was on when he took the job. No excuses.
