Breaking: Vols’ schedule additions

Some of this was because there was no way around it.

Bama already had Georgia and Tennessee on the schedule. Unless you put Florida on it, there wasn’t anything else to do. And they just played South Carolina last year.

Georgia already was playing Auburn and Alabama. What else were they going to get?

Exactly. Bama really only had Florida, Mizzou, Vanderbilt and Kentucky to choose from. It stinks because the East stinks generally speaking.

UGA had State, Arky, Ole Miss and LSU to choose from.

Vols had A&M, Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss to choose from. What were we going to be happy with?

Below is a complete list of each school's two additional games:
  • Alabama: Kentucky at home, Missouri on the road
  • Arkansas: Georgia at home, Florida on the road
  • Auburn: Tennessee at home, South Carolina on the road
  • Florida: Arkansas at home, Texas A&M on the road
  • Georgia: Mississippi State at home, Arkansas on the road
  • Kentucky: Ole Miss at home, Alabama on the road
  • LSU: Missouri at home, Vanderbilt on the road
  • Ole Miss: South Carolina at home, Kentucky on the road
  • Mississippi State: Vanderbilt at home, Georgia on the road
  • Missouri: Alabama at home, LSU on the road
  • South Carolina: Auburn at home, Ole Miss on the road
  • Tennessee: Texas A&M at home, Auburn on the road
  • Texas A&M: Florida at home, Tennessee on the road
  • Vanderbilt: LSU at home: Mississippi State on the road

We need better boosters with deeper pockets. I'm getting tired of being outbid by AL, GA, & FL.

Posted this in another thread, but it seems this is where the conversation will actually take place. Heh.

Sorry for the redundancy, those who are keeping up with both:

Don't look at the added games in isolation. If you do, it looks like Mizzou got royally screwed. In reality, they had by far the easiest schedule in the SEC before Covid-19 changes. Adding Bama and LSU to their slate didn't even move them into the top 5 of schedule difficulty.

The fellas who totally got hosed are Arkansas. They already had a rough path, even before UGa and Florida got added. They are scheduled to play EVERY SINGLE ranked SEC program. No other team has to do that.

We, South Carolina and the two Mississippi schools are not far behind, at 5 ranked opponents.

Half the league plays 4 ranked foes.

UGa and Florida are skating; they each only have to play 3.

Here's how it rolls out:
  • Arkansas - play 6 ranked - A&M, Bama, LSU, Auburn, UGa, Florida
  • Miss St - play 5 ranked - A&M, Bama, LSU, Auburn, UGa
  • Vols - play 5 ranked - Florida, Bama, UGa, A&M, Auburn
  • Ole Miss - play 5 ranked - Auburn, LSU, Bama, Florida, A&M
  • South Carolina - play 5 ranked - Florida, A&M, UGa, LSU, Auburn
  • Kentucky - play 4 ranked - Florida, Auburn, UGa, Bama
  • Mizzou - play 4 ranked - UGa, Florida, Bama, LSU
  • Vandy - play 4 ranked - UGa, Florida, A&M, LSU
  • Bama - play 4 ranked - UGa, LSU, A&M, Auburn
  • LSU - play 4 ranked - Bama, Florida, Auburn, A&M
  • Auburn - play 4 ranked - UGa, A&M, LSU, Bama
  • A&M - play 4 ranked - Auburn, Bama, LSU, Florida
  • Georgia - play 3 ranked - Bama, Auburn, Florida
  • Florida - play 3 ranked - LSU, UGa, A&M
Oh, and...
The problem is the 3rd place team in the West last year beat Oregon and Alabama and the 4th place team was Texas A&M.

In the East, the 4th place team was 4-8 and the 3rd place team lost to Georgia State.

It’s going to be difficult to “balance” a schedule

If by "4-8" you mean 8-5. Kentucky did not go 4-8 last year.

break/break

It would be perfectly easy to balance a little better than they did. For instance, if you took the Florida game from Arky and gave it to Bama instead, Arky would go down to 5 ranked foes, and Bama would increase to 5. Arkansas could get the Kentucky game from Bama to keep both at 4 East opponents. And guess what, side benefit! Florida would go up to 4 ranked opponents. Still one of the easier SEC slates, but better than just 3 as it is now.

They definitely could have balanced better than they did.

Tennessee’s last regular season game with Auburn was two hours ahead of UGAs last regular season game with LSU. If we’re going back to Auburn then UGA could have hosted LSU.

No, the fellas who totally got hosed are those pigs from Arkansas. They already had a rough row to hoe, and that was before UGa and Florida got added to their dance card. They're the one team in our conference who are scheduled to play EVERY SINGLE ranked program.*

Considering Arky plays us, they are playing the Top 7 teams in the conference but get a break on #8 Kentucky.

South Carolina and Kentucky were 3-5 in SEC play.

South Carolina beat Kentucky. South Carolina finished 4th in the East

Edit: Sorry. It was a 3 way tie for 4th. Mighty Kentucky, South Carolina, and Missouri all tied for the honor. I think the point still stands.

Anyone else feel like this?

our schedule overall is as tough as anyones.

For these 2 extra games, we got a tough draw...but look at Misery and Arky...good night they both got 2 guaranteed losses...probably by an average of 20plus...

Florida and Georgia "skate" because the East sucks. They play 3 ranked and 2 of the 3 are from the West. The rest of the East plays Florida AND Georgia. Since Florida and Georgia can only play each other and can't play themselves.....they "skate"
