BREAKING: Knoxville police investigate alleged rape involving UT football player

so freakin sick of this--- Has Butch not sat every @#$& player on the team down by now after this re-occuring theme in a room and explained the consequences!? I'm sorry but freakin idiots.....

The story that they heard from the girl is basically there's no "situation" that he "found himself in" and "couldn't flee". More along the lines of calculated and with intent.

Why don't you just tell us everything you know instead of stirring the pot. If you want to "inform" us then tell us.

Let's not project this onto our whole team. This is a Von Pearson and Von Pearson only issue. I'm sure 99% of the team would never do this.

Basically football players cannot have sex with girls anymore. That's where I'm at with all this stuff. Too much to lose.

just dont have sex with randoms at parties, when there might be drugs/beer, etc etc. Sex is part of college life, but there are better ways to get it than some of these guys are.

Can you guys quit analyzing every single word I said? I literally came here just to let you guys in on some information that I had a very high level of confidence in. All Vol.

When I first opened this thread, you were describing a situation where you and some friends after a night of imbibing, aided a girl in distress who accused a TN football player of assaulting her...and she named his name and you got her to an officer. Well done! Since then you named that player before the police did and sketched it as if she didn't recognize the player but you guys did...cuz he's been Big Pimpin at your parties! Big problem with that is HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE PERPETRATOR LOOKS LIKE? If you weren't there when it happened? Unless you were and then that opens up a whole new line of questioning. This is a mess you made so don't blame us for stomping on it.

The definition of witness is very broad in a law enforcement context, and could be something as little as Howard and Mixon seeing Pearson and the victim together. Don't necessarily jump to the conclusion that these two other players were directly involved in any altercation.

Again. As I have said before. Any player should no way put himself in position to be accused of such things. And if he is, he needs to use wisdom and flee a situation .

So many people say this, but this is such a naive perspective. If he didn't rape somebody, he's not guilty of "almost sorta kinda" rape because he "put himself in that position." What does that even mean? Assuming that a sexual encounter did take place and that it was (or seemed to be) consensual, how would Von have been "putting himself in a situation" to be accused of rape, unless you are going to say that you have no place on Tennessee's team unless you avoid all sexual encounters? And even if he fled, that's not a foolproof way to avoid a rape allegation (see, e.g., Joseph and Potiphar's wife--and I have anecdotal knowledge of a similar situation among acquaintances of mine).

I mean what can he tell them that they don't already know? "Your career will be over", "this will ruin your life", "say goodbye to the pros!"

At some point it's not on Butch.

When your in the limelight your gonna find yourself entitled to a lot of things and a lot of temptations. What I am saying is , you have to think with your mind. Is it worth it? If your at a party early in the morning, it's best to leave with your boys and not even get involved with a girl. We use to have a watch out team. We wouldn't allow anyone to be out of site without knowing what the situation is.

Every kid should be told by parents the same thing. Butch, when he recruits, obviously tries to get high character guys. Everything that comes after once the recruit comes on campus is on the recruit. Butch can't babysit every player. He can tell him how to represent UT, and if they don't, it's their own fault.

Witnesses? If they watched and didn't intervene, they are accomplices as far as I'm concerned

Not quite how it works... By that rationale, anyone who ever witnessed a gas station get held up or a murder take place and didnt try to stop it would be an accomplice...

Butch can only handle stuff when it's brought to him. He can only be judged by how he deals with stuff. So far I give him an A. No other coach besides Richt suspends and kicks off players. Player will be suspended until outcome resolved. Drives me nuts that people have to provide names simply because it's gossip and people will tuNE in.

Heard Swain talk about this after the AJ deal. Said when he was in school, the smart, older players weren't out cattin' around getting themselves in these situations. They "got themselves a girlfriend". There...problem solved.

This is very gross and unfuntornate to say in our society, but when your a known figure, you don't have to force yourself on a girl to have sex, there are many equal men and women willing just because of who you are. When I say men, I mean if a man meets some famous person he would be wanting to hook up with her just so he could say he did as true with women .It's a harsh reality.

I'd be willing to bet that VFL34 knows a little more about the situations college athletes are put in on a daily or nightly basis than 98% of this board. Naive would not be the right word...to describe him at least.

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, Pig was one of the "witnesses", along with defensive end Dimarya . KPD: UT receiver Von Pearson suspect in alleged rape - News Sentinel Story

As others have said, I don't think they actually witnessed the sexual act, but for example may have been in the same vicinity to possibly see the two together or see them go into a room.
