Honestly his weight doesn't scare me as much after seeing the USCe game. He looks to be a pretty good load to take down at 6'6.
All he's got to do is try for an intake of about 500 grams of protein a day and hit the weight room twice a day he'll get there fast.
He won't put on 25 of pure muscle to get to 225, even if he is in fact 200 now. His body type just can't synthesize that much protein into muscle without steroids in the time between end of season and summer camp.
He could put on 5 - 10 of fat and the rest muscle. On his frame, that 5 - 10 of fat would be be perfectly OK going into summer camp. For him it would helpful to keep his body from consuming muscle. His Junior year, he could be a soild 225, and maybe higher senior year.
Without steroids, that doesn't work past the initial few months of training - something he is well passed having been in a S&C at least since last December, and probably since high school.
There is an upper limit on the amount of protein the body can convert to muscle per day, which varies by body type. As skinny as he naturally is, his upper limit is relatively low for an athlete.
Any excess is partially passed and partially turned to fat. The body is much more reluctant to make muscle mass beyond an initial bump than most people think, and muscle mass is much more efficent per gram of weight than most people think.
So do the players get fed a certain diet according to thier nutritional needs? How do they monitor what food they eat? Just curious how this all works for college athletes. I know the pros have thier own chefs.
I have also heard a comparison to Brays bodytype to Manning. I dont recall Manning being this thin, even when he was a freshman. I think Bray is thinner than Manning, when Manning was a freshman.
