I just find the predictable "actually this kid sucked and we didn't want him" posts as tiresome as the world is ending posts. This is a 4 star recruit who most were very excited to get who is now not coming. No, it's not the end of the world, but it's not nothing either.

I actually don't see much of this type of statement in this post. It is actually an attempt by some to find out why, with a very good set of potential answers to that question. The coaching staff has made it clear that they will not tolerate slacking off, even before they make it to school. It is noteworthy, but not earth-shattering.

With Ryan Thaxton having just been released, we have an open spot on 85 man roster, correct?
This appears to be the issue, not the 85.

Once Tennessee took Brandon Kennedy as a grad transfer, they didn't have room for him under the 25 new counters in a calendar year rule (that's different than the 25 signee rule), so this was only a matter of time.

He wasn’t going to contribute this year and really didn’t fit their model for a DL. Pruitt honored his commitment...on signing day, but he was already well behind lower rated recruit Kingston Harris and I don’t see him beating out WHOEVER Pruitt lands in 19. All that being said, IF he was fine academically and the staff let him wither and fall because they basically OVERSIGNED in the offseason? Low rent imo and the first ugly look in this era.

True, and iirc Lawless seemed befuddled by the whole situation when he wasn’t allowed to enroll earlier in the summer...

It seems he got played...but, we don’t know for a fact. Agree, it’s a bad look, if so..

Lawless doesn't have the grades to play D1. He'll go subdivision football somewhere. All on him.

Good grief it's been known for a while the Lawless probably wasn't going to be here. GBO!!!!!!! Good times are a coming!!!!

His on field performance dropped, that's just reality.

Pruitt could've saved a spot but decided it was better used elsewhere.

Those are the facts.
Not sure if you're wanting everyone to ignore them to be more miserable or what?

Time will tell if this is actually the case. He holds offers from Bama, UGA, tOSU, LSU, Auburn, OU. Don't think talent is the issue with this one.

Was it wasted on Kennedy? I say no.

Minus the grade issues I believe Lawless would be on the team right now. He still could have opted to enroll next January if he really wanted to be here.

That’s not how it works

You don’t mind losing someone who could have really helped us?

Yeah. I don’t think he fits that description. Wouldn’t have played this season and strongly doubt that he’d have been on the bottom of any piles in future years. Think of retroactively “losing” Dillon Bates...draining tear ducts? :)

Typical “didn’t want him anyway” fanboy post. Lol

Pruitt chose to use his scholarship on a different player, how is that losing him?

Don’t judge him! :nono: He’d rather have an end of the 85 roster filler than a starting OL and contributing linebacker! :w00t:

Because he committed to us at a position of need and will now play somewhere else?

By your and Butchna’s logic, we should all be thrilled with every recruiting class no matter where they rank or their ability because hey, all those highly ranked players that signed with other schools aren’t losses for us

Overly dramatic.
Lawless wanted to be at UT.
Pruitt had the option to hold his scholarship or recruit someone else in his place. He recruited someone else. I'm neither happy or upset, it just happened.

But if my wife ever chooses another man over me, I'm going with "she lost me" 😂

Oh I see the problem. You’re just totally lost on our point of view. :eek:k: Cuz that mishmash you just posted? Nowhere close.

I would hope we all agree this will be a transition year and CJP has a plan he is executing on. Very few individual players will make or break a team so this, by itself, isn't concerning unless it starts a trend. We just had the ability to fill the slot with an equal or better player.

Unlike the CBJ days there seems to be a very tangible reason for him moving on and it wasn't anything UT did/didn't do. We are fine and getting close to football time in Tennessee!
