Michigan has 1 (shared) NC since 1948, Is 1-11 v Ohio state (hoke beat them), and was coming off 3-9 when hoke got there. Give the man some credit for knowing where to look, making the sale and, after the 2017 draft, having a lot of goodwill with the high school coaches who are very proud today.

He's ours now. Not Michigan's.

Recruiting for Michigan is a bit easier in the Mid West than recruiting for Tennessee in the South. Only serious competitors with Michigan is Ohio State and possibly Michigan State and Notre Dame.

We have 5-7 major schools who we directly compete with (FL, GA, Bama, LSU, Auburn, USCe, Clemson, FSU). Big difference. Plus our home state is not the same as the state of Michigan. He will find it tough here in the South.

Should we be thrilled with all of the talent that Hoke got to Michigan or a bit worried that it took another coach to develop that talent into a squad that wasn't historically bad by Michigan standards?

My opinion - Good position coach, was WAY out of his element as head coach.

My opinion - Good position coach, was WAY out of his element as head coach.

A coach has to get them there 1st.

Hoke will be able to focus on one position group rather than being the "caretaker" of a program, he may be back in the "briar patch".

my memory is a bit of a blur on this but I think he was a very successful head coach before he returned to Michigan. San Diego or the like?

EDIT:
yes, he was head man at San Diego State 2009 and 2010 before going to Michigan 2011. He did a great job those two years in reviving that program and that led to his return to Michigan. He was Ball State head coach before that.

He is a good one! I believe the only reason he joined the Vols was a long standing relationship.with Butch. He could have had many options and he chose Tenn.

We won't have him long, but I think we are lucky to have him!

I'm not talking about the 5* players. I'm talking about the John Kelly 3/4* type player. The ones that make up a majority of the roster.

Based on what I see in college football today. few have a interest in getting a NC. Most are all about doing their time in school and getting on to the NFL. Sad but true.

Look at the us here. Few complete their 4 year eligibility except for those that have no NFL chance. Most 4 and 5 star recruits do 3 years and out.

CBJ may be on to something when looking for players that have won Championships in HS. That experience may help drive them at the collegiate level.

Full confidence? Too early to say that, IMO. High Hopes? There I shall go.

Re develoment, Harbaugh got Hoke's 2017-draft kids when they were Sophs or Jr.s. Can't give Harbaugh all the credit. Some, yes. But how much?

He's a bit of a clown. Makes $9million/year and hasn't done better than 3rd in the division. Riding a 1-3 streak. Playing 8-9 cupcakes annually. Poster boy for "All Hat, No Cattle."
