Lol I love it. I’m sure the bangers will be first to sign up for gun insurance.

Seattle already tried this with their bullet tax and all it did was push sales outside the city.

That's why it would have to be federal in nature. And insurance isn't the only way to go. You can also tax at the point of purchase.

Let's do what we do with other activities that have negative externalities--try to internalize those externalities by making sure the cost of the item reflects the societal cost. Here's a brief discussion of the issue:

We already have negative externalities for negative behavior. If you commit a crime with a gun, you go to jail.

Owning a gun and abiding the law is neither a negative behavior, nor does it have a cost to society.

That doesn’t change the fact that drug related criminals are doing most of the shooting. How do you plan to collect money from them?

Banned meaning no more allowed to be made or banned meaning illegal to own? Because the latter makes ex post facto criminals out of law abiding folks who still possess the gun.

Banned meaning no more allowed to be made, distributed, sold, or purchased. I guess you could bequeath it in your will (that would be the only way it could legally change hands)

Not sure we're working the same concept of an externality. An externality is not the same as a consequence.

Excellent point. Without redirecting the debate, this is why free market/pure capitalism is not sufficient as a stand alone economic system. (at least without the presence of a completely educated society with access to 100% of the information - which will never happen)

I love this quote from the link: Thus, unregulated markets in goods or services with significant externalities generate prices that do not reflect the full social cost or benefit of their transactions; such markets are therefore inefficient.

This is especially true in areas like education, health care, infrastructure, and public safety and security.

Lol I’m not afraid of them. I have my AR15s!!

They do too. You can only shoot one gun at a time and there are 18 million of them whom can easily obtain them on the black market by trading drugs to the pilled out rednecks desperate for a fix. You all need better arms for the vicious cycle the NRA has help create.

Mick DACA is a whole separate debate. I believe DACA was an unlawful executive order that circumvented this existing law and made matters worse not better.

It still left them in limbo it resolved nothing. Obama way got out of his lane on this one.

And it put a target on the lawful productive ones. ICE has a damn list now!

I’m not afraid of the lawful productive people on that list. The ones I’d need my AR for are still under the radar.

And this is a whole separate topic.

So then it sounds like we should be afraid of them?

I’m confused by your approach here.
