Bowl Game...Smole Game......Why

Reiterating what a lot of people have said, a bowl game is big for two reasons-

One, the extra practices are invaluable. Bowl practices build a bridge from in season to spring practice. Think of it in terms of education. Kids have a lot harder time getting back into "school" mode following summer break than they do following Christmas break. It gets the team into spring practices that much closer to being in football shape.

Two, the optics in recruiting are a lot better as a bowl team. If you're trying to sell your program, no one wants to say "we 'bout that sub .500 life..." A 7-6 team sounds way better than a 5-7 or 4-8 team. I do agree our aspirations should be higher, but we aren't there yet, so a solid improvement over last year gives a much better glimmer of hope that a kid committing four years of their life to a university won't be an experience where they are on a team that loses more than they win.

If it's the Podunk Outhouse Bowl that's better than sitting at home getting out of shape and selling a losing program.

If the Vols win out they would be 8-4 and finish 3rd in SEC East...that would probably get them a bid to the Liberty or Belk Bowls or possibly the Tax Slayer Bowl. They could end up playing Oklahoma St., Texas Tech, Va Tech, FSU, Miami, Mich St., or Wisconsin. The coaches would want to keep the bowl winning streak going to 4 in a row. The goal each year is to become bowl eligible, win the SEC East, play in the SEC Championship game and get into the playoffs.

Not saying we will but if we do win out and go 8-4 that should tell everyone all they need to know about Pruitt and Co. If in his first year with a limited roster he gets to the same regular season best by our last staff that should show everyone what most of us already know and that is we have a great head coach and coaching staff. If we go 6-6 or 7-5 that's still great improvement, 5-7 or 4-8 would be a disappointment but I would still feel like we have the right guy based on our improvement through the season and the teams continued fight

do I care about making a meaningless Bowl Game? Why would that indicate we had a glimmer of a successful season. The Bench Mark Bowl Game is 3 years from now.
The Vols playing against some hyphenated team in the Poulan Weed Eater Bowl means little. Few if any on here touting a Bowl Game would travel farther that Nashvegas to attend anyway. Anyone up for a trip to Shreveport?
The ONLY inkling of a reason would be additional practice time...……..and with the walking wounded we have on the Hill...…….I'm not sure that would help.
I want CJP to get his players on campus and let the real work begin. His grade card is a couple years away!
Because the players want it. Not going to a bowl game means the season ends a month earlier than it has to. In football, that is a let down.

I’ve always thought those extra practices should be available for every team. Maybe even more for teams that really suck.

Look OP ^^.

That's a bammer telling you one reason. Another is all the extra practices.

Forget all the Vols that said it, but by golly if a bammer says it, you best listen.

I just read that the extra practices help player development, but unfortunately that doesn't correlate to any wins the following season. So, there's that.

Aside from the fact that it is extra practice and an extra game for the fans. Gives extra media attention. Plus, shows a turnaround of our program.

The players like bowl games because what some people do not realize, is that when a team gets invited to a bowl game the players get gifts from the hosting organization. Everyone likes free things.

So boom.

Well when your talking about Bigger Bowls its all about.......

Dude, The 15 extra practices are a HUGE freaking deal. Especially for a young team learning a new system. I don't care if its the toilet bowl. A bowl is a bowl.
