Bowl Game...Smole Game......Why

do I care about making a meaningless Bowl Game? Why would that indicate we had a glimmer of a successful season. The Bench Mark Bowl Game is 3 years from now.
The Vols playing against some hyphenated team in the Poulan Weed Eater Bowl means little. Few if any on here touting a Bowl Game would travel farther that Nashvegas to attend anyway. Anyone up for a trip to Shreveport?
The ONLY inkling of a reason would be additional practice time...……..and with the walking wounded we have on the Hill...…….I'm not sure that would help.
I want CJP to get his players on campus and let the real work begin. His grade card is a couple years away!

It is better to play in a bowl game than to stay at home in December. Recruiting, practice, development, signs of progress, money for the university, and fans get another game to watch.
As for few if any on here would travel for a bowl game beyond, Nashville, speak for yourself. A bunch on here would travel for one. You have no ground to say few would travel. That's just your opinion. Tennessee fans travel well. We always have. If we make a bowl game, majority of the fans there will be decked in orange. Just because you won't travel for a bowl game doesn't mean the rest of us are sitting at home because it's a lower-tier bowl.
What walking wounded are you referring to? To be this far into the season and to have as few actual injuries we have awesome. You seem to exaggerate and state your opinion as fact.
We all want to get into a better bowl game but after last year and the start to this year, any bowl game a great thing.

Gotta win 6 to get to a bowl. 6 is more than 5. Good grief.

Behr coming through with the math.

I told my girls "if we beat Auburn and qualify for a bowl, we will get tickets and travel to whatever bowl they get." so we will be going wherever it takes us.

I'd rather UT play in a bowl game than not.

I don't think it will have a signifiacant impact on recruiting or anything like that. I'd rather see another UT football game.

Are any bowl games meaningless for a team that just went 0-8?
Even if UT wins out, the bowl game will be "meaningless" anyway. Just pack it in the rest of the season and go practice. Sounds good!;)

The players may get a little monetary benefit particularly if the bowl is a distance away. They used to get the value of an airline ticket from TYS to where ever. Several players would load up in a car and drive to save the cash. Don't know if this is still the practice. I think they also get a goody bag of some sort. Good for the players, good for the team, good for the university. Let's go bowling! GO VOLS!!!

its shows that we have improved way more from last year

This a true, but the Auburn game has already made that point.

A bowl game is always a good thing.

A bowl win would be the iceing on the cake!!!

We get extra practices. That's the big deal. It's vital for young players and new players in the system.
Still don't think an extra 2 weeks of practice is as big a deal as many think. It's better than not practicing, but long term benefit....I just don't see it.
With that being said......Going to a bowl when you were not predicted to go to a bowl would be huge for any team. Get it done Vols!

At this point a bowl game would seem like a new Corvette for Christmas and i've always wanted a new Corvette, haven't you?
Go Vols

Actually, that's not true anymore. There's been a few 5-7 teams who have gone bowling in recent years. It's a stretch to get in at 5-7, but it's possible depending on APR.

I understand that, but I don't think we would be academically eligible. But, to be more accurate.... You gotta have at least 5 to go to a bowl and 5 is more than 1, 2, 3 or 4.

How's that?

Sounds good. Personally, I like the idea of winning 8!

Two major benefits being practice and recruiting. While I didn't play D-1 a couple of my friends did and it is shocking the amount of goodies these kids get from shoes, clothes, electronics and a stipend as mentioned by a previous poster. If you think this doesn't further influence kids from coming to UT you have your head in the sand. Furthermore it shows progression from the previous regime. I really hope we can do it and this weekend more than likely will determine if we can achieve this goal.
