Boosters calling for Currie to resign

Off topic but does any Vol fans live in Ecuador? If we don't fire Currie (knowing this program we won't) I am officially done with college football, I am not taking this shame internationally. Got a fair amount of Tennessee stuff I just moved down here with me and will be getting rid of if anyone is interested.

If the boosters don’t do anything than the fans should. We already look crazy. Let’s at least try to get rid of the failed influences.

This is John Thunder Thornton's home....it has been featured on a show about epic log homes iirc.

Custom Luxury Homes, Designers: Ellis Nunn

It's a nice house on the inside and Thunder Thornton is a really nice guy.

At least they took the fans' side this time right?

The old AD would have said "screw you fans,we will do what we want to do"

Maybe this time, our current AD actually wants the best of our fans now? That's what we have wanted right?

I really think that our AD will do what they can to please us....and I think the search is going to be extremely transparent.

Put down the liquor and go to bed.

Currie has done nothing that leads me to think he can do this job. Another mole planted by Haslem. Everyone wanted Fulmer or Blackburn. Who did we end up with?

Have read so many negative threads about the Haslam family, especially recently. Why on earth would any or all of them NOT care about "winning". I'm truly confused. My perception of Jim Haslam Sr. has always been a man of great generosity & character. Has the "apple fallen too far from the tree?" Inquiring minds want to know. :twocents:

There are a lot of parts to the Haslam story that I don't get. Doug Mathews on Big Orange Sunday went on a rant about the UT administration and how anyone with real UT roots is considered inbred and it is a negative on their resume.

You can hear it here: https://audioboom.com/posts/6516001-big-orange-sunday-11-26-17.mp3 Note: this show was ending just as the Schiano debacle was just getting momentum. Doug hadn't heard of the hire yet, and was giving Currie credit for "doing a fine job". Shows you how Currie had everyone fooled that he was actually shopping for a coach.

Weird to me since Papa Haslam was a captain on Neyland's 1951 national championship team.

I think the inbred ban is real, and I also think we haven't had a chancellor lately (Cheek and now Davenport) that really gave a rip about the tradition and glory days of UT football. All they want to do is tear down buildings and put up new ones. Think Davenport has watched YOUTUBE of the '86 Sugarbowl? (Like I did last night).

Thing is, those administrators don't really care. Maybe they see a Fulmer or Blackburn as inbred and something they can't control. I dunno - but I think (and you'll hear Doug Mathews talk about this) as long as the AD is under the Chancellor, who is under the President - that the chain of command is screwy and accountability is passed down the tree.

I wonder if Big Jim Haslam ever tries to ovverrule little Jimmy? Is little Jimmy Haslam the George Costanza of athletics?

I have to admit, I thought Currie might have been a little more "professional" than Fulmer as AD. After Sunday, please put Fulmer in there as AD. I think he could handle the Haslam problem, however that's exactly why he won't be AD.

Is there a list of all the people who plan on donating to the renovation project? That's who we need to email and contact to try and force them to not donate. As long as those donations are happening and Neyland renovation is still a go then nothing will change. This is only way to wake up the University administration. Haslam won't fund it by himself

This is like thanking someone for flushing the toilet after they cheated on you with your wife. Bunch of low T around these parts recently.

I'm sorry thats what he should have done...what 'he wanted to do'...based on research, fact finding, his good judgement, etc and NOT what the fans wanted...

PS...with that said I think this proves he doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to make tough decisions and stick by them...for those who are of a certain age, how do you think Doug Dickey would have handled this?

In defense of the OP, if he gets the hire right everyone will forgive and forget. It’s just how VN rolls

No they won't, no one will forgive this man for what he tried to do, him or the haslams. They will be a curse word in Tennessee

Thunder Thornton is a great man who geniuinely cares about the university. He was right up there with the Haslams in terms of donations until the housing crisis of 2008 set him back significantly financially. He is just not the power-player that he once was in the 90's, and it's a shame to VOLnation, because he actually does care about the U.

They care about winning, but Jimmy the boy lacks Jim the man's football moxie. Jim Sr played for the 1951 NC team, blocking for his buddy Hank Lauricella, the first Tennessee player to be runner up for the Heisman.

He first joined the UT board in the 70s at a low point in the football program and was instrumental in the Johhny Majors/Fulmer years. Is 86 and inactive now.

As for his boy, look no further than the Cleveland Browns. Just not a football person, and not running Pilot that well either from all appearances.

So the apple has a few worms in it. :wink2:

Plans are currently on hold as they consider modifying the plan to enable them to close off the upper deck as to make it hide the seats so on TV it appears as though the deck is a sunscreen...

Oh wow, I missed the announcement of John Currie's firing and replacement!

--since Currie's actions said "screw you, fans, we're doing what WE want", tried to bring in an old buddy with a lackluster coaching record + baggage, and was opaque rather than transparent.

The fans is not what stopped Currie/Haslem.

Thats the media sensationalizing how it happened for a nice story. Currie met a ton of resistance (pretty much everybody but a small handful) before he got pen to paper. Had that not happened twitterverse and a couple hundred protesters were not going to influence a stop. Schiano would have had a presser by now and been on the job.
